How do you edit scanned documents?

Post by DigitalLarry »

I scanned a document and could not find the function where I could directly edit the text on a PDF document. I just tried the 7-day free Acrobat DC version and when I hit edit, it made the entire document editable. Is this function not available in PDF-Exchange? If it is, how do I go about it? I tried OCR, but it changes all the fonts completely and is different from the Adobe version, which does not change the fonts and is easy to edit.

Thank you in advance

Hello, DigitalLarry

The OCR function you found is the way to accomplish this within our Editor. Unlike Adobe, we do not run OCR automatically upon activating the edit tools, it is something which, as you are seeing, can change your files in some ways, due to the engine in use.

Thanks for responding. What settings do you recommend so as not to change the fonts or form structure during the conversion?

Hello, DigitalLarry

The OCR engine tries to use the closest matching font when generating editable text, so the best solution would be to ensure you have the original fonts installed so that a substitute is not used. Beyond that, none of the settings we offer will have an impact on this, if you wish to have editable output. This feature is highly dependent on your document format and quality, and a higher quality file will result in a more accurate OCR process.
