Layer and Sublayer visability

Post by RKron »

Layer-visability.png
Hello Together,

i' not sure about one thing.
In PDF X-Change we have the possibility to have layers and sublayers. So as far then i know in other Programms (all CAD like AutoCad, Rhino whatever) if i make the parent Layer unvisible (Off) also the child layers are unvisible (Off).

In PDF XChange: if i make the parent layer unvisible(Off) the child-Layers are still visible(On) and i'm not able to change there visability until the parent layers visability is On again.

So the way i think it should work is: If i turn off the parent layer -> the child layer are Off too.

Maybe there is a good reason why it is like the way it is.

Thanks in advance

Hi RKron,

I see the same here. I have reached out to the devs to see if this is intended or not and will let you know what they say.

Hello, RKron

Yes, this is intended. "layers" in PDF are quite different from layers in, say, image editing applications. They would be better named as "optional visibility groups" in PDF, because that is the sole purpose they serve. Hiding a "container/parent" layer does not and will not automatically show/hide the contained/child layers as well, each item will need to be selected to show/hide. Note that you can use Shift+Click or Ctrl+Click to select multiple layers, and then press the Spacebar to toggle their visibility state at any time.

Kind regards,

Hy,

thanks for the answer. Just a little funny that the logic in "PDF-XChange" is different to all other programms (including other pdf readers and editors).

I think it's a little annoying to work this way - but i think it's not on me to change your philosophy.

In any case thanks for your quick answers.

Kind Regars
