142 Gb of Backup Data?

Post by shade-cabin-hammock »

Hi,

There is 142Gb of PDF-X backup data on my system. They are among the largest files on my PC.

What can I do to reduce this number, and why is it happening? The number seems high for a single application. How many can I delete? What is the cause? And, how can I prevent it from occurring again in the future?

Hello shade-cabin-hammock,

Have we in the past asked you to turn on back ups - so that you can provide us with a file of e.g. a time when the Editor or our Printer drivers were not working correctly? If we did - and you didn't turn off the feature after we were done with the investigation - those backups will continue accumulating.

The files seem to be from 7, 16 and 27 Jan - so if you leave just the last one in place the other ones are likely safe to be removed.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Ah! Can't recall. Perhaps? I'm guessing I may have switched it on myself - like maybe I saw the setting and thought, "Hey! That's a pretty good thing to do!"

Can't find the setting now. Please can you remind me of the path?

Hi Stefan,

These files have a deeply nested folder structure:

"C:\Users\user\Documents\PDFX Baks\2023-01-08 024552\2023-01-08 023052\2023-01-08 021552\2023-01-08 020052\2023-01-08 014552\2023-01-08 013052\2023-01-08 011552\2023-01-08 010052\2023-01-08 005200\2023-01-08 003052\2023-01-08 001552\2023-01-08 000052\2023-01-07 234552\2023-01-07 233052\2023-01-07 231552\2023-01-07 210052\2023-01-07 204552\2023-01-07 203052\2023-01-07 201552\2023-01-07 200052\2023-01-07 194552\2023-01-07 193052\2023-01-07 191552\2023-01-07 190052\2023-01-07 184552\2023-01-07 183052\2023-01-07 181552\2023-01-07 180052\2023-01-07 174552\2023-01-07 173052\2023-01-07 171552\2023-01-07 165108\2023-01-07 163608\2023-01-07 161407\2023-01-07 155907\2023-01-07 154407\2023-01-07 152907\2023-01-07 151407\2023-01-07 145907\2023-01-07 144407\2023-01-07 142907\2023-01-07 141407\2023-01-07 135907\2023-01-07 134407\2023-01-07 132907\2023-01-07 131407\2023-01-07 125907\2023-01-07 124407\2023-01-07 122907\2023-01-07 121407\2023-01-07 115907\2023-01-07 114407\2023-01-07 112907\2023-01-07 111409\2023-01-07 105907\2023-01-07 104407\2023-01-07 102907\2023-01-07 101407\2023-01-07 095906\2023-01-07 094407\2023-01-07 092907\2023-01-07 091406\2023-01-07 085906\2023-01-07 084406\2023-01-07 082907\2023-01-07 081407\2023-01-07 075906\2023-01-07 074407\2023-01-07 072907\2023-01-07 071407\2023-01-07 065906\2023-01-07 064407\2023-01-07 062907\2023-01-07 061407\2023-01-07 055907\2023-01-07 054407\2023-01-07 052907\2023-01-07 051407\2023-01-07 045906\2023-01-07 044407\2023-01-07 042907\2023-01-07 041407\2023-01-07 035906\2023-01-07 034407\2023-01-07 032907\2023-01-07 031407\2023-01-07 025907\2023-01-07 024407\2023-01-07 022907\2023-01-07 021414\2023-01-07 015914\2023-01-07 014413\2023-01-07 011420\2023-01-07 005927\2023-01-07 004418\2023-01-07 002912\2023-01-07 001414\2023-01-06 235908\2023-01-06 234417\2023-01-06 232919\2023-01-06 231408\2023-01-06 222953\icg201E.tmp"

Can I just delete the top directory? And, can I have just yesterday and today's directories there? Presently there are 793 directories in

C:\Users\user\Documents\PDFX Baks

Re: 142 Gb of Backup Data?  SOLVED

Post by Tracker Supp-Stefan »

Hello shade-cabin-hammock,

Yes - it should be OK to delete those back ups (you can try to move them to another folder for a day or two to make sure nothing breaks), but it is certainly unusual for you to get so many and so huge files.

Do you have this option turned on?
