Document Comparison Fail

Post by sqgl »

Cannot detect the trivial difference of two documents. One simply has typewriter text saying "test one", the other has "test two". Yet I am told there are no differences.

For more complex documents/comparisons none of the reported differences makes sense.

EDIT: draftable.com specialises in comparisions and got the above simple example wrong too. See screenshot. Maybe there is something technically awkward about Typewriter comparisons?

Hello, sqgl

Our comparison tool is still in the early stages of development and is far from fully featured. It does not yet offer any comment comparison functions, though they are planned for the future. For now, only base content text can be reliably compared, and in some cases, "shapes" can be compared. In time we will be adding, more robust text/shapes/images handling, comment locations, and eventually text comment contents.

For now, the results you are seeing are expected. If you instead use the "add text" tool, and place the text in slightly different locations, or make a change and save a copy of the file, you will see the comparisons are properly detected.

Kind regards,

Thanks. Thought I was going mad

I tried your test suggestion with the add text tool: "test one" and "test two" in slightly different locations. The location difference was ignored but the "one" vs "two" was successfully detected. Again, draftable perfomed the same way as PDF-XChange and I include the screenshot (since it is learer than the PDF-XChange screenshot).

Obviously much more difficult than comparing txt files. Good luck in the development.
