Thanks for taking the time to read this. I feel confused about SDK and PDF-X.
First, my understanding of what an SDK is is sort of like this:
"OK! We (either a private company or an open source consortium) wrote this program. And, we understand the general public would like to be able to make their own extensions / modifications to it. So! Here is our Software Developer Kit (SDK). We encourage you to use it to develop your own software to integrate with the main program."
So far, how does that sound?
Now, here's where I get confused. A while back I asked about the PDF-X SDK in hopes of building an extension and Stefan answered:
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?p=156543#p156543We no longer sell developer kits, and as far as the PDF specification goes - you can only really use JS to ask the Editor to execute specific commands, so you will certainly need JS...
Devastated as surely I was, I put aside my delusions of grandeur and resumed my regular life...
Using the app this weekend I was thinking back to that exchange I had with Stefan, as there was an INDICATION within it of SOME things we could build even without the SDK.
As I was looking more carefully at the Forum's front page today I found... THIS GOOD sub-Forum I'm posting in right here, now -
PDF-XChange Editor SDK
"YES!", I thought, but feeling pretty confused. However, hopeful! As, there's posts from even just TODAY!
Please can anyone help with these questions?
Is there an SDK that we can use to make extensions for the PDF-X Change Editor?
Is it applicable to the latest version?
Is it still offered / updated regularly?
( I DID see the developer builds and SDK Information Tool pinned here at the top of the forum - but they seem to be from 2016? - https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?p=101348#p101348)
When Stefan wrote that it's no longer being sold, does that mean it's not being offered at all?
Now it's offered free?
What is the SDK that is being used, how can we get it and can it be used successfully to make modifications to the latest version of PDF X-Change Editor?
Sincerely,
SCH
