Dark mode?

Post by MedBooster »

I couldn't find any existing post / tutorial on this topic, maybe someone can help me.

Is there a dark mode for PDF xchange that you can enable and disable ? (without having to change the font color etc. every time you want to switch back)

Would it maybe also be able to switch the color of documents? E.g. turning black text into white text and the white background into a black background?

A bit like in Samsung Notes if anyone is familiar with that.

Thanks Lev,

I hope you don' mind that I put marked up your screen shot to make it more obvious where those settings were.

:P

Ok , thank you. What would have been nice though is a keyboard shortcut, like Ctrl+Shift+L or something like that to switch between light and dark mode.

Will this setting only affect the user interface of PDF xce or also flip the colors of PDF documents themselves? (temporarily of course)

Hello MedBooster,

You can set up a screenshot to the "Customize Theme" command and this should allow you to quickly get to that menu, and you can then change with 1-2 clicks.

Also in build 360 there is an "Allow Dark Mode from system":

So (while I am not really using dark themes in Windows, so have not tested this personally) if you have this turned on - and have shortcuts to switch the whole Windows to a Dark theme - this should switch the Editor to a dark theme too

Kind regards,
Stefan

Great! Because that can be done quite easily with Autohotkey, although my current script seems to be broken. So let me know if anyone here has a good script for changing the system from light mode to dark mode and back?

What about that though? Seems it can't alter the PDF rendering to use a dark background with white text. Of course 100% of PDF documents might not render perfectly with those settings, but most would.

AH ! Found my answer from this post by JimmyD

viewtopic.php?p=154605#p154605

Clue = Accessibility. LIFE IS NOW MUCH BETTER :D

I think part of the discussion in the thread above talked about a way to toggle the document theme setting on-demand. Outlook has something like that. Something like this on the View ribbon would be useful for any odd PDF that just doesn't render well in a dark theme.

So just toggle the Override Document Colors setting via a button for the uncooperative document then back on when done.

Even better, just add a control to the status bar. Save the step of having to activate the View menu.

Hello fletch,

Ctrl + Shift + 6 is the default key combination for the "Override Document Colors" command, which effectively toggles the accessibility colour overrides on or off. You can add that to any toolbar from the Customize Toolbars menu:
