[suggestion] Allow user to specify cloud sync PDF-XChange Editor settings folder

Post by Jensen Head »

I am working with PDF from two computers in different locations. When I make changes to hotkeys, the location of panel buttons, other application settings, I have to manually make them on another computer as well.
It would be much more convenient for me to do as Notepad++ suggests* - to specify the folder of the mounted cloud storage on both computers, in which the settings would be stored. And through this folder, automatic synchronization of all editor settings would be performed. Without the need to take screenshots of settings windows and manually verify them.

Hello Jensen Head,

Maybe this taken from the sysadmin manuals would help?
https://help.pdf-xchange.com/sysad ... -file.html
You can set it up so that on startup the Editor loads your settings from a specified file (which might be on your cloud storage).

You might still need to upload an updated copy of the same file when you make changes to the Editor settings though!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Stefan, thanks for the reply! I didn't realize this setting was in the admin guide. However, if I understand correctly, there are only two tools - manual export and automatic import. That is, automatic saving of the current settings to the specified location does not currently exist by regular means? Is there any reason to hope that this opportunity will appear in the foreseeable future?

Hello Jensen Head,

Sysadmins would usually like to have control over the creation of the settings file, and that's why this part of the process is manual, and the automation is at the point where they push that settings file to their users.
I do not think it's likely that we will improve this further with allowing automated saving and uploading of the settings file to a cloud location, but I believe that once you set your preferences and UI once, significant changes to the UI are not likely to be made very often, so you having to manually export your settings once in a while should not be too much of a trouble!

Kind regards,
Stefan

You can do it using the portable: https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?t=38970#p161270

Use at your own risk!!!

I flop back and forth between two computers (both with Cloud access) and I use Manage Settings to deal with this. It is not quite "automatic" (I would like that, too) but it is not "manual" either. In Manage Settings, I try to keep a good, recent copy of the *.xces file exported onto the Cloud in an easily-accessible folder and then I simply import it onto the other computer.
All best,
