Change text color for find/search results

Post by zarkogajic »

Hi Support,

I think the following is at the moment not supported, so here's a suggestion/feature request:

1. Do a find/search for some text, like "editor":

image.png

2. Change the text color of the matched find/search results

I know I can annotate find/search results - but that's not what I need.

What I'm after can be achieved, entry by entry, by doing the following:

1. Activate Edit Content mode
2. Select a word (/some text) inside a text block
3. Change the Fill Color to selected color

image1.png

At the moment, I can only do this entry by entry.

p.s.
So, maybe something similar to "Replace Fonts" tool but for particular words / searches.

Hi, zarkogajic

Following the "replace fonts" function, we are working on tools for a proper "replace text" tool, which would include other such formatting options as this. That however is a much more complex function and is not something I can say will be available in any short timeframe currently.
Do know it is planned for the future, and will eventually be possible.

In the meantime, you will need to continue manually doing this as you have been.

This thread says that it has been solved. Is that correct? I am looking for this functionality as well and would like to know how one could highlight or change font color or some other ways to "highlight" the Find search results. I have used and advised folks to purchase PDF X-change because I find it to be such an intuitive, user-friendly software. So, I would like to see this capability added to the software. Another software allows you to do this.

Hello, Qamar

"Solved" is a status typically set by the OP of the thread, but it unfortunately does not necessarily indicate that the item being discussed has been implemented. In this case, I suspect that it was set by Zarko as an indication that he had no further questions, and that he understood from my explanation that this is not something we will be seeing in the future, and that he will continue to workaround it.

Maybe one could so something like this with AutoHotKey, or Javascript?
Wishlist
Bookmarks with page numbers
Optional fixed small icon size in the toolbar
Shift to UNLOCK aspect ratio/i]
Allow more "toolbars" to the title bar
AltGr issues with character input and keyboard shortcuts

Hello, MedBooster

Javascript has limitations with its ability to affect base content, so that is not likely possible, but an AHK script could likely do this, though it would take some setup.

Returning to the question of Qamar ... "how one could highlight or change font color or some other ways to "highlight" the Find search results.".

Here, we must make a difference between "highlight" and "change font color". The first one is possible, the second is not.

You can highlight specific words by using Search to find them and then in Search Options > Annotate Search Results > Highlight Search Results.

I hope Qamar will still return to this topic and read this solution.
If so, please give us a reply.

Hi All,
I am very happy to report that it worked. THANK YOU!!!
If I am not mistaken, this is what the original post was asking for. Daniel, I am sorry I might not have posed my question properly.

Here are the steps I used:

Instead of Find, use Search.

Click on Search - dialog box opens
In the dialog box,
Enter your search word in "WHAT would you like to search?"
In "Where you would want to search?", confirm that the current document is selected.
Click on the "Search" button below, within the dialog box - all of your search words are highlighted
Click on the "Options" button
Select "Annotate Search Results"
You have the options to select Highlight, Underline, Strikeout
(there is another option for "Comment Styles Palette", which I am not sure how to use.
This was my first time using this forum and it has been a wonderful experience.

I'm glad to read that you got the desired result.

1) The original post was about "changing the color of the text" of the words that have been found. That is currently NOT possible via the Search-feature.

2) The entry for the "Comment Styles Palette" in the "Annotate Search Results" sub-menu of the Search-Options offers you the opportunity to change the color of the Highlight, Underline, Strikeout, ... before applying it to the search results.

Regards.

Still some knowledge to share...

Looking further into this, I found another solution to change "the look" of the font color, still by using Highlight.

All thanks for this are going to Ed (evdbogaard).
See: https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?p=159214

This is what he wrote:
" I found a solution using the Highlight tool: I choose the desired Fill Color (RGB(0,101,192)) and set Blend Mode to 'Screen' and Opacity to '100%'. Although this puts a layer on top of the text, the visual result is comparable with changing the Font Color of the text itself. "

This solution can be used with the Annotate Search Results in the Search feature, simply by previously changing the properties of the current Highlight (via the Comment Styles Palette).

I hope it still helps in some way.

In some way yes.

But the final idea is to not have (new) annotations on top of document. If you flatten those highlight annots - the "visual result" will be lost.

Thanks for your reaction -žarko.

Indeed, using the highlight method only helps for the visualization. When flattening the text or printing it, the effect gets lost.

Hopefully the requested feature for "changing the text color for find/search results" becomes available soon (or later).

Best regards.

Hi guys,

just so I am clear, you want search results to permanently change a document?

Essential like "Find and Redact" but "Find and Change Colour"?

Dear all,

From my opening post for this thread:
I know I can annotate find/search results - but that's not what I need
(for future readers - saying this just to make it clear that suggestions presented here still do not make this topic truly "solved")

Hello, zarkogajic

Yes, that is understood, I still cannot offer a timeline for when the "find/replace text" function will be available, but once it is we will be working on increasing the formatting options available within it.
