Treating underscore as a character during find/search operation

Post by JoRy »

Hello,

when searching for certain text with Whole Words setting selected it always finds also text that includes underscore character "_" followed with some other text.
An example:

The document contains "hello" and "hello_world". When I type in the search window "hello" I would expect that with "Whole Words" option checked it will find only the "hello" text. Unfortunately it finds also the "hello_world", but it highlights only the "hello" part.

It looks like the find/search function treats the underscore character "_" as a space.

Is there any workaround to make the find/search treat the underscore character as a real character?

Thank you.

Hello Jory,

I was just trying to reproduce this issue and did not have any troubles:

Can you please ensure that you are running the latest version (Build 334.0) and if not, update the application then try again?

If the issue persists after updating, could you send us a copy of the file that you are testing this with, and send a screenshot of your Search terms and settings, so that we can reproduce it here and show the Dev team?

I also have this problem. Did you find a solution or work around.

1) Create text document with the following text
+5V
+5V_A
2) Print to PDF-XChange Lite
3) Open in PDF-XChange
4) Search for "+5V" with whole word selected
+5V is found in both +5V and +5V_A
5) Search for just "+5" and nothing is found (as expected)

Hello, scroteau

That is working as intended, the _ character is not part of a word as it is a separator, while you can include it as part of the search, it does not fall into the range of what constitutes a "new word" and thus you will see a result with both "+5V_" or "+5V" (or even just 5v, because the + is another separator, not counted as part of a word) in the search bar.

As for your 5th step, This is the inverse, if you have whole words selected, +5 alone is not going to get a result, because the only "words" in this case are "5V" and "A".

Kind regards,
