Attachment visibility

Post by labcottage »

Hi, is it possible to easily tell 'at a glance' that a pdf document has an attachment, or do I need to click on the 'Attachment' button to see if a document has been attached?

Many thanks,

Hello labcottage,

Unfortunately, for the moment the answer is no.

You have to open the Attachments Pane in order to see if there is an attachment in the file.

Regards.

It's a must-have to get a hint, that "there is something" more than the visible PDF-content!

When will PDFX get such an "indicator"? A paper-clip like Adobe Reader somewhere to click on it, and - even better - a message box (warning) when opening such a PDF would be useful.

Hello Guebert,

I cannot make any promises for implementation right now, but this is something that has been discussed recently and may be considered in the future. For the moment however we have not seen enough demand for to prioritize action in this direction.

Daniel,

thanks for your reply.

Just another suggestions: If the pdf contains any attachment, the "attachment"-pane should open automatically, if it closed by default. This seems to be a concept, which does not need a lot of changes in the application, doesn't it?

Hello Guebert,
That is one of the possibilities that we have considered for this, and may be the route we eventually take. The best that I can promise right now is that the idea has not been scrapped.

Daniel,

anything new regarding this topic?

It's still "inconvenient" to have to open the attachment sidebar manually ... as mentioned, Adobe does it much better in showing this sidebar automatically, when opening such a "container pdf".

Hello, guebert

I am afraid that I do not have any new development to share, and this item is likely to be a long term item going forward, as it is not something we have seen a very large number of requests/reports for.

With that said, it turn out, I missed something when we were first discussing this, it is possible for documents to be given a command which will prompt any reader, including ours, to open the attachments, pane. Ideally, documents with attachments should have that option. If you are creating documents with attachments, you can open the document properties (Ctrl_D) and look under "initial view" to specify that the attachments pane should be opened along with the page.

Daniel,

your solution does not help for me (my office). I need the reader (!) to open the attachments pane and not the document, because I do not have any influence, which documents our staff receives from outside.

Please force this missing feature once more ... !

Thanks

Hello, guebert

My apologies for the inconvenience, there is little that we can do if the document itself is not requesting that this be opened. The best I can suggest in the meantime, is that you open the attachments pane (Ctrl_Shift_A) and simply leave it open when opening new files, then you could always tell at a glance, if there are any attachments available.

Daniel,

I see, that there is no solution right now.

Therefore I ask(ed), to push this feature request (more).

Hello, guebert

The most that I can promise is it will be considered, until we see yet more demand, I cannot push the matter any further.
