OCR in portuguese not working - bug

I've installed the PDF Xchange viewer 2.5.322.10 and also the portuguese language ocr files from the OCRTessLangPack_EuropeSouth.zip package.

When trying to OCR in one of the four original languages, the program performs correctly. But when trying the portuguese OCR, the small window with the progress bar disappears almost instantly
Any idea on how to solve this?

Thanks..

Hello Lum,

The Viewer is now a discontinued product and will not be seeing additional bugfixes, beyond critical security issues, so we may not be able to fix this if it truly is a bug.

On to the topic at hand. Is is possible that the OCr has indeed completed that quickly and you simply have not noticed? please try using the Find function (Ctrl+F) and let me know if the document is now searchable?
If search works, the OCR is completing as intended, albeit faster than we might expect.

If you are instead looking to use OCR in order to convert the document to an editable format, the Viewer will not be able to do this, you will instead need to use the Editor, with its new EOCR plugin in order to accomplish this conversion.

Kind regards,

It can'f find anything.

Thanks.

Hello Lum,
In that case, please try downloading the Editor instead of the discontinued viewer and see if its OCR works better for you. Just like the Viewer, all features of the Editor can be used without a license and will only apply "demo" stamps when premium features are used.

Kind regards,

How can a user obtain the EOCR plugin?

Thank you.

The EOCR should be installed by default, but can only be used as a 30 day trial once any license valid for the Editor is used. After this, you can purchase the EOCR directly via your account.

Cheers,

I'd say that BUG is the following:
In old Viewer OCR works (I have registered 2.5.214). Also update with old "OCRBaseLangPack.zip" and other "OCRadditional...zip" worked.
But previous link to OCR files https://www.pdf-xchange.com/pdf-xchange-viewer-ocr now redirects to https://www.pdf-xchange.com/pdf-xchange-ocr with "OCRtess... .zip" which install properly to the same "\ocrdats" folder but OCR doesn't work, just shows briefly a "rasterizing" message and nothing.
It's contrary to saying that "They will work with PDF Editor/Tools up to Version 7 and PDF Viewer up to Version 2.5".

I didn't notice before as I used company's Abby all this time, which is not available.
I'm aware that current product is Editor but Viewer was enough and better suited to me for UI and size.
Please correct the text and put back latest OCR files that worked.

https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?p=133285 seems the same.

Hello, TimX

As the Viewer has been discontinued for over 10 years now, and is not seeing any further updates, regardless of the presence of any bugs, there will not be any fixes coming for it (it is now far enough outdated that we are not offer security patches for it any longer either).

The OCR files which are available for download on our website have been deprecated since shortly prior to the V9 release of our products, which implemented an in app system to acquire OCR language files. While the webpage to download old languages is still available, it may no longer work for select older versions of our software.

At this point, I am afraid that the best I can offer is that if you need to perform OCR, you would be best served by updating to an application which is seeing active support.

Kind regards,
