Re: Callout - Fit box by text content
Hello Daniel,
Thanks for your detailed answer.
Thanks also for trying to adress this as you mentioned.
I understand regarding the width you would like to avoid to change.
Please, could you still find a "trick" to allow users as me to expand the width to suit the text, as it was till build 367 with Text Box tool ?
I'm using PDF X-Change to place dozens and dozens of such comment nearly everyday, I would be so glad.
It might be an additional checkbox in the settings or the tool settings, for instance.
Or a default size which is oversized when putting such a comment on the document (by customizing default size in the Styles palettes).
Please, consider this request as I'm confident I'm not the sole one expecting this behavior.
Hope this issue to be fixed... in 2023 !
Thanks a lot, Daniel.

Re: Callout - Fit box by text content
Hello Sinaptik,
Shrinking the width when the box is wired than the longest line of text is OK - but what happens if you have a line that is so long that it won't fit on the whole width of the page. As Daniel said - expanding the width is not something we would be looking at changing for now, and adjusting the heights to ensure that all text is visible (if the height was insufficient) is how we would approach this.
The issue with rotated pages is still there, and we will work on a fix for that!
Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: Callout - Fit box by text content
Hello all,
I will say that unfortunately, fit text box by content (for normal comment text boxes, not callouts) is not working properly for me currently.
Many times, the text box becomes just a tad too small such that the last word is cut off. Also, automatic text wrapping now leaves things as opening brackets at the end of the previous line, and moves other things like commas to the beginning of the next line.
This leads to many manual adjustments that are tedious and time-consuming.
Strangely, this does not happen in all PDF files, only in certain ones (see attached example, which is one extracted page from an affected file).
Best regards

Re: Callout - Fit box by text content
In 367 we changed the "fit by content" algorithm. In previous builds, annotation took as much as page width (or height depending on orientation) to fit the text. Word wrapping was not used when there was enough space. This way does not allow limiting annotation width.
In 367 we use the current annotation's text box width (in text direction) as a width limit, and wrap text using this limit. In our opinion, it is a better way.
But as we see there are many users used to the old behavior, in the next build we will provide an option to control that.
In regards to issues with text wrapping. As I see this was 'introduced' in the 365 build. It is definitely fixed in the V10 we are working on. I will check if we can fix it in the next build of V9.
P.S. I cannot reproduce the issue with text cut off though.

Hi Ivan,
That could be great if you let the user choose to change or not the width of a text box / callout throught the settings, huge +1 from me.
Looking forward next build and / or release.
By the way, what's the rough estimated time framefor those ?
Just wondering if it's a matter of weeks or months.
Thank you, Ivan !

It's impossible to lead us astray for we don't care even to choose the way.
