How to transform a html-webpage into a PDF?

Post by Env »

How can I transform a html-webpage into a PDF in a high quality? I tried pdf-xchange 4.0 but the quality was bad. E. g. the letters have been very diffuse.

Does anybody know this?

Hello Env,

Please try installing our current latest products (you will need Standard or Pro):
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product/downloads
And this should install an add-in for Internet Explorer, that will allow you to convert web pages to PDFs with a single click and directly from inside the browser.

Please also take a look at this:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowledgebase/344
As it might influence the quality of the resulting pdf.

The installation of Standard or Pro will also add an Office2PDF tool, which can also be used to convert MS Office and HTML files to PDFs.

Regards,
Stefan

Thanks a lot for your reply. I own a license for PDF-XChange PRO and already have installed the XChange editor.

Shall I now just install PDF-XChange PRO or will this overwrite my editor?

Hello Env,

If you have already installed the Pro bundle package - then the IE add-in I mentioned in my above post should already be installed as well - please check the attached image.

The Editor is part of the Pro bundle package, so if you reinstall - the Editor should just be reinstalled as well.

Regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

thanks a lot. The IE-tool works but the text of the webpage is not text anymore in the PDF. Where can I change this setting to e. g. make it possible to mark the text in the PDF by Ctrl+a meaning how is it possible to transform the webpage-text into text in the PDF?

I remember that I had the same problem (in Firefox), but I don't remember the solution. You should find the posting here ..

@Peter,

thanks a lot. It seems like the problem is not solved(?) although it was issued 2 years ago?

Hello Env,

Does this happen only on a particular website or on all that you have tried?
Can you please test with a random plain text page and see if it still gets converted to images?
If it's a public website - you can share the link and the resulting PDF here in this topic if you want!

Stefan

It is an internal page but it is the same on all tested sites e.g.:

Hi Env,

Thanks for the link - just to make sure that I'm understanding correctly, this is not just happening when you use File --> Print (or Ctrl + P) in IE, but is also happening when using our toolbar add-in? Can you also send a sample PDF that has been rasterized?

Thanks,

Hi Peter,

Thanks for that - I've created a ticket for this, as it should not rasterize the content where the printer does not. The ticket number is RT-3464.
