.joboptions file import for settings

Hello all,

We just moved to PDF XChange 2012 Pro and since we are no longer using Adobe Products I have been tasked with ensuring compatibility. I have been looking for some way to import these settings (the attached file) and cannot find a way.

"INSTRUCTIONS ON FULLY EMBEDDING

All fonts used within the document (including blank spaces in the document and
header/footer) must be Open Type fonts in order for them to fully embed.
 You will need to save the Adobe printer settings that are attached to this email. To do
this, follow the steps below:
o Locate the Adobe Acrobat Distiller sub-folder named “settings” on your
computer.
o On a windows computer this will typically be located at
C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Distiller\Settings.
o The final folder will already contain three pre-defined Job Options
labeled PressOptimized.joboptions, PrintOptimized.joboptions and
ScreenOptimized.joboptions.
o Locate the attached joboptions file on your hard drive. Then, drag and drop
this job options file into the settings folder.

 After you have saved your settings file, and created your document correctly you are
ready to save the pdf. In the document creation program (Word, Indesign, Etc.) click
Print> Choose Adobe PDF as your printer> click Properties> change the dropdown box
for “Default Settings” to the “XXXXXX” job setting>
o For MINI-KITS - Change the Paper size drop down box to 5.5 X 8.5 (You may
have to add this paper size to the drop down box)> click OK> click OK

 The last thing to do is to check that all of the fonts have been embedded properly. To
do this, open the PDF you just created then go to File > Document Properties and select
the Fonts tab. All fonts shown in this list must have “(Embedded)” after the name of
the font if they are properly embedded. If nothing appears after the name of the font
or is says anything else like “(Embedded Subset)” the fonts did not embed properly and
you should contact your Clarity Account Manager for further help. You will also need
to check the first tab of your document properties to make sure that the page size is
correct."

Hi tuckerv77,

Thanks for the post - I'm afraid that it isn't possible to import Adobe specific jobs/job settings into our printer. You would need to manually set this options, which could then be backed up by using profiles.

Also, please note that I've edited your post to remove the hexadecimal strings, as they were causing the horizontal page boundaries to expand severely. In the future, please upload any such information in the form of a text file or *.rtf document.

Thanks for the info Will. Are we able to export and more specifically import profiles to other machines? Ideally I would like to then make a profile with the setting called "company x" and then import the profile as a default on all licensed computers. Is that possible?

I have been looking and am unable to find anything but do you know if there is a way to either convert or import settings in from .XML format to .PP5? I am trying to create the profile without having to do it manually....Please tell me there is a way!!!

Would I need to setup/import the profile in the PDF XChange printer or within PDF Editor or some other place? I am uncertain as this is dealing with the plugin. I am only asking so I know what type of format I need to have the settings in to perform the import whether it be PPS, XLS, etc to try and create the profile so that I can distribute it.

Hi Tucker,

I'm afraid that we do not offer any way to convert from XML to PP5 and, I'm afraid, it wouldn't help you if we did; only some of the settings would pertain to our printer, as we don't use all of the settings that Adobe's printers do.

Hopefully I'm not misunderstanding - are these Adobe settings for their Reader/Acrobat Pro, or for one of their printers? If the latter, then you would need to be working with our printer's profiles, to achieve something comparable.

If the former, then you would need to set all of the necessary options in the UI of the installed Editor, then could use the Edit --> Export Settings feature to export settings that you could then distribute.

The import CMD options, for network-wide distribution, should be listed under the "Getting Started/Introduction" section(s) of our online help manuals:
