Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Hello,
We have had some Computers that lose the registeration of PDF X-Change. When you apply it manually even then it can just disappear from the machine.
Is there a way to make sure the registeration sticks? I could probably make a GPO that puts the licensing info to registery or something like that...

Re: Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Hello pctuki_fg,
Are there multiple user accounts on that same computer? Or are there any other tools or applications that could be "restoring" the state of the affected machines to a state from before you installed and licensed the Editor?
Is it just the license information that gets lost or are other settings also changing at the same time?
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Some Computers have multiple users, but mostly single user.
It seems at least that the license info is the one that seems to get lost. We had this same kind of problem at somepoint too with earlier version, but then we had GPO setting to put the key into the registery. I think the method has changed since as the key is so different now days.

Hello pctuki_fg,
Yes the license keys are quite different now, and are stored in a different way as well.
I will need to check with colleagues for the best solution in your case.
We will write back here a bit later with further ideas.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Thanks for that pctuki_fg,
the license is valid and is applying correctly on a test system here. Can you tell me in what environment you are seeing this? Is it a multi-user environment like a Terminal Server perhaps?
Can you check the Windows Registry to see if that key is explicitly listed as removed. When a key is removed in the UI under Edit -> Preferences --> Registration it is not actually remoived from the registry but added to a list of blocked keys. If you go into the registry and remove the reg key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\Vault\_Removed (each 'removed' key is a sub key of this one) doe sit allow you to add the license?

Re: Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Hi,
I looked at one user and he has normal client pc. There is no Vault-key in the registry (not under the user nor in the local_machine branch).
I looked from my Computer and there was that Vault key with sub key 000 there. It was located under the local_machine branch. Is the reg_binary here the registeration? It is probably generated at random per machine and cannot be applied to other Computers?

Re: Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Hi pctuki_fg,
Are you attempting to copy the reg. keys between machines, in order to license the application?
Cheers,
That's correct. This is the license key and all of these reg keys are encoded with the machine specific data - they cannot be copied between machines in this manner. It is probably generated at random per machine and cannot be applied to other Computers?

Nope. Is there a command line I could run remotely that would register the software with our key? Will - Tracker Supp wrote: Are you attempting to copy the reg. keys between machines, in order to license the application?

Re: Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Hi pctuki_fg,
You can use the /KEYDATA="Your serial key here" or the /KEYFILE="Path to XCVault" to pass the key.
Also, a new build was released yesterday, so please make sure that you are using the latest build:

This applies during installation. How I would do it after the product is installed? Will - Tracker Supp wrote:Hi pctuki_fg,

Re: Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Hi pctuki_fg,
You can call the XCVault module itself, specify the silent launch parameter, then call the vault.
i.e. XCVault.exe /s "C:Temp\Client Vaults\Personal.xcvault"

Couldn't find that exe. Does it come with the pro package? The installation we have does not include following components: Office2PDF, Addin for MS Office, PDF Optimizer, Bookmarks Plugin, Tracker Updater and Internet Explorer Addin.

Hello pctuki_fg,
It should be in
C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\Vault
So the full command line will look something like:

Found it on another machine. Do not know why this one didnt have that. Anyways is it possible to use the KEYDATA? We only have that. If we need that xcvault file where we get it?Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote:Hello pctuki_fg,

Hi pctuki_fg,
You can download the .xcvault file from your account on our website, or you can e-mail our support@pdf-xchange.com e-mail with the key as string, and we will send back the vault file.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Problems with registeration sticking to computers
Thanks for all. Did a vbs script and distributed it via SCCM. It seems to work. At least its registering the machines so lets see how long they stay that way.

Hi pctuki_fg,
Good to hear! And hopefully the license information will stay registered indefinitely - as it should
