New updates, no new versions?
Hi. I've noticed on the download page that PDF-XChange Editor has been "updated" a couple times since the 306 release (based on the "Updated on..." date). Similarly, PDF-XChange Pro (which I use) has been updated a couple times since the 272 release. But neither of the products has had a version change.
So what's going on? Are these just minor tweaks that don't update the version number, or what?

Re: New updates, no new versions?
Hi milliondl,
Even minor changes to the code behind our products normally result in version changes, so when you see an update, but the build number remains the same - this normally means that the installation file was changed (due to e.g. problems in the installer itself not related to the code of the actual products), or in this case - as there is more than one installer - we originally updated the Pro package .exe installer to include the Editor, and then did the same for the .msi packages. So the functionality has not changed hence the build number is the same.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: New updates, no new versions?
Currently editor free doesn't have autoupdates. So how to do updates/upgrades?
To upgrade, is it required to uninstall previous version or an over install can be done & the user will get an upgrade option that will preserve the changes done by the user?

Hello narenbisht,
Yes for now you need to update manually, and I would recommend an uninstall, reboot and then install of the latest build on a "clean" machine, but installing over should work as well.
Regards,
Stefan

But does installing over preserves user changes to the editor?

Thank you for the information. Makes sense.
Re: New updates, no new versions?
Update version 306.1 of the Editor will not install on Windows XP sp3 here. 213.1 of the Viewer installs okay. Tried it on 2 computers.

thanks for the report.
I have reproduced the install failure on XP. Sorry for that. We'll be looking at that today.

Re: New updates, no new versions?
Paul I downloaded the new file and it installed okay.
But the first file I looked at with it is not displaying properly. At fit width magnification, the shading disappears from pages 2 & 4. At 100% it is okay. Looks good at both magnifications in the Viewer.

Re: New updates, no new versions?
Hi Arnold,
Thanks for the post and the file - I'm afraid that I'm seeing the same thing with the Editor, the Viewer and Adobe Reader. The file seems to loose the shading in all 3, so it would seem that, if there is an issue, it is with the file itself. Please try recreating the file and, failing that, please try recreating with one of our drivers, as it appears that this file was not created with our software.
I would suggest trying to create the document with either of our two printers:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... hange-lite
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... e-standard
Do note that, unless you have a license that is valid for either of the two drivers, they will watermark any documents that you produce with them, so printing to them now would be purely a test to see if they deliver the desired result.
Also, I feel it worth mentioning that even with our drivers, I cannot guarantee the result, as I don't have any knowledge of the source file or application.
Cheers,

Re: New updates, no new versions?
Very strange as over here shading does not get lost in the Viewer. I tired it a number of times to be sure. Not worth spending more time on it though.

Hi Arnold,
So we shall consider this latest issue resolved and stop spending time on it if that's OK with you?

Stefan

Re: New updates, no new versions?
For sure. I sent it over mainly for you guys. It is a small drawing that I did using hatching in individual cells in Excel. It is very rare that I do something like that with Excel.

Re: New updates, no new versions?
If the problem persists, or if anyone else experiences this on a regular basis, then we will certainly look deeper, but for now, it doesn't appear that the problem is likely to be with us.
We certainly appreciate the report though and, as I said, let us know if it continues to be nuisance
