Drawing displays with garbage

Post by palosanto »

Hi I received a drawing from a client and I cannot display it properly. I get a bunch of color filled polygons on top of the drawing. I believe the original drawing (autocad) was edited overlaying an image of the new information to mask the old corresponding drawing area. In any case, it displays properly with Acrobat Reader XI (latest) but not with Xchange reader. While the file is loading in Acrobat, I can see the layers being loaded and the last one (finally covering the drawing) but the result is fine. However in Xchange I end up with various colored filled areas with a mess. See below
I tried to re-save the file in Acrobat reader but still no joy. Xchange still reads it wrong. Any solutions? I don't really want to save it as image because I'd like to keep the vector format if possible.
Thanks

Hello palosanto,

Please try opening this file with our new PDF-X Editor:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... nge-editor
And it should display properly.

Stefan

Hi Stefan, Thanks, I already tried that. It displays properly but when I save it from there I still get the same bad file.
The only improvement is printing as pdf from the editor where the resulting file is almost perfect although some areas still show through the layer underneath.

Hi palosanto,

Could you please explain in a bit more details what you mean by "when I save it from there I still get..." do you mean you use the "Save As..." option in the Editor and then try to open the new file in the Viewer or something else?

Regards,
Stefan

Thanks palosanto,

The Editor will correct anything not following the PDF specification that it detects even if it can fix this type of error and display the PDF. However that particular bug is due to an issue in the Viewer and not the PDF file, so the Editor is not correcting it. When you "reprint" the file - you are using a different method of creating the PDF file, and the new copy is now correctly handled by the Viewer.
I would recommend you to continue using the Editor - it is due to replace the Viewer on 21 Oct.

Hi palosanto,

Thanks for the update - would it be possible to get a copy of the file so that we can test here?

Cheers, let me know!

Hi palosanto,

12MB should be fine to upload, provided it is first wrapped in a .ZIP folder or a RAR/7Zip archive. However, you could send an email to support@pdf-xchange.com directly - though please make sure to include a link to this forum topic as a reference.

Cheers,

Hi John,

Thanks for sending that - as per my email, I've reproduced the issue here too, so I've created an internal development ticket to track the progress of the issue. For future reference, this ticket number is RT-2033 - please reference this number whenever requesting status updates.

Cheers John, we appreciate your patience and understanding here!
