Where is Settings.dat in 2.5.189 portable version.

Post by chanh »

I just take a look at 2.5.189 and notice it is entirely different than 2.0 series and I can't find the Portable.dat and Settings.dat

Does the 2.5 version do away with these two files?
It was nice that I was able to set a global setting for the portable view and all user get the same setup but how is that done in 2.5?
How is the Shell Extensions and browser plugin work in 2.5?

I was given this little hack to make it work for the portable version in 2.0. Will these still work the same for 2.5 or different?
ren Portable.dat ~Portable.dat
regsvr32 PDFXCviewAx.dll /s
regsvr32 PDFXCviewIEPlugin.dll /s
PDFXCview.exe /RegServer
PDFXCview.exe /MakeAssoc:web=no
ren ~Portable.dat Portable.dat

Thanks

Hi Chan,

none of these things should have changed for 2.5. We still use settings.dat and portable.dat. It appears that the portable zip file we uploaded n the last build was missing the file Portable.dat. We will correct that now.

So that you understand how this works, the "Portable Version" is actually the same executable as the installed version. It looks for the presence of the file 'Portable.dat' and if it finds it will function as the portable version storing settings in Settings.dat. If it does not find the file Portable.dat it will look to and write to the registry for settings.

You have 2 choices:

1. Download the new zip archive we uploaded just now that does have the Portable.dat file in it. It may take a few hours to propagate through the cloud file servers

or

2. Copy Portable.dat into the working directory of your "Portable" Viewer and it will function as before.

Thanks for pointing this out so we could resolve this quickly.

regards
Best regards

Hi ZoNi

sorry to hear that. Perhaps I should have suggested you save your settings to file first: http://www.docu-track.com/knowledgebase ... nge-Viewer

That way you can easily import them again. Next time... ?
