Text/regex when creating links from bookmarks

The "Create Links from Bookmarks" is a fantastic tool - my request is to be able to refine the search criteria for the bookmark text. Typically my bookmarks on drawings will be in the form [Sheet Number] [Sheet Name] thus:

But I need to add links to the sheets based on just the sheet number that's scattered all over pages:

If there were a way to list the bookmarks and assign custom search criteria, or do a general regex/split on the bookmarks (ie for my case it would be ^[A-Z ]+[0-9.]+) to get the search term for looking on the drawing?

There's a current workaround that I use: export all the bookmarks, do a find and replace on them to rename them all to just the sheet number, then do the links, then delete the bookmarks and re-import them. Just a lot of messing around for something that feels like it could be done programmatically.
