A Crop Copy Feature

Post by shade-cabin-hammock »

Hi,

Book with short complicated chapters

Chapter 1 has 5 pages. But, it would be easier to work with if it was just one LONG page.

Successive chapters the same.

Current process:

Reprocess pages first as .DOCX
Open in Libre Office.
Set page length to 228 inches.
Re-save as PDF

Chapters no have no page breaks! 15 chapters on a page. :D

Here's where I need help. The NEXT step.

Open in PDF X
Drag crop tool around Chapter 1
Leaves ONLY chapter 1
Go to Thumbnails
Click the now trimmed away page.
Copy
Create new document from clipboard
Return for Chapter 2
Repeat eight steps
  • Click Undo for Chapter 1 crop.
  • Drag crop tool around Chapter 2
  • Leaves ONLY chapter 2
  • Go to Thumbnails
  • Click the now trimmed away page.
  • Copy
  • Go to new document
  • Paste from clipboard
That takes a bit of time.

Is there any CROPPED copy?

Such that I could drag a rectangle around a page and it PHYSICALLY takes the content of the page?

I know I can drag select to copy the page but...that results in an image of the page that is blurry, defeating the purpose.

Any way to achieve what I'm hoping for short of cropping them away as I've described above?

Sincerely,

SCH

I suppose the "Merge Pages" feature in the "Organize"-tab of PDF-XChange Editor will be something to try.
No need for other applications.

Roger that, lads! I'll give it a go.

Willy - have you ever used this feature before? Is it tricky at all?

Stefan - any things to remember with this tool or, better yet...hidden Easter eggs? :D

Hello shade-cabin-hammock,

It's a pretty straight forward feature - so no specific advice that I can give. Just give it a try yourself and you will quickly get the grasp of how it works!
And no 'Easter eggs' I can think of either!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Hello Lads,

Ah! I'm confused about the Merge feature. Somehow I thought it would take separate pages and sew them together. So that where there were pages 1, 2 and 3 - these three pages become just one long page. Something like this, left side right side:

merging.jpg

Do I have that right? Is that what the Merge tool does?

When I tried, clicking merge on a file (attached) resulted in no output. Choosing ALL pages. Choosing pages 1 & 2 it moved those pages BELOW pages three and four.

So, please some questions - does the Merge feature combine pages as I've illustrated. (And if so, what am I doing wrong?)

And, if this isn't what Merge does, is there any tool that we have in the Editor Plus that does?

Many thanks!

Sincerely,

SCH

Hello shade-cabin-hammock,

Please try with settings like these:

And you should get file like in the attachment.
Please be aware that there will be a limit of 5080mm / 200 inches for the new merged page's max possible size.

Kind regards,
Stefan
