PDF of emails

Post by bawldiggle »

Will PDF-XChange Editor create a PDF file of emails PARTICULARLY conserve any links on the email ?

I am currently using a Mozilla addon "PDF24PDF" (Firefox + Thunderbird)
• In Thunderbird no links are conserved.
• In Firefox results are patchy

Does PDF-XChange Editor play with Internet Explorer ?
If PDFX does play with IE how is that set up ?

I recently read PDF-XChange is "working" on Mozilla. Any updates on that rumour ?

Thank you :)

Hello bawldiggle,

The Editor is designed to open and display for you existing PDF files, or create new ones from "scratch", for the conversion process you need our PDF XChange Standard printing drivers:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... e-standard
They will integrate with IE and Outlook, and you can then convert e-mails and web pages to PDFs and preserve links as well.
Sorry there's no plug-in for FF or TBird.

Stefan

Any update on being able to preserve URL links when saving emails as PDFs from Thunderbird? Is there a setting to turn on or something else needed?

Hello, Petr V

Without a plugin like we offer in MS Office, it is not possible to process links which are not written out fully in plain text. Any "click here" style links will not be able t be converted while printing to any printer (including virtual printers). This is because thunderbird does not send the internal link data to a physical printer, it is extraneous and unnecessary, and because of that, we have no information to work with in the process.

If your links ARE written out in plain text then it is possible to configure the Standard printer to process URL's and generate a clickable link overtop of that text in the output PDF document.

I hope it helps!

Hello bawldiggle,

It happened about a month ago :
The Internet Explorer (IE) 11 desktop application ended support for Windows 10 semi-annual channel on June 15, 2022. Customers are encouraged to move to Microsoft Edge with IE mode. IE mode enables backward compatibility and will be supported through at least 2029.

Kind regards,
Stefan

77 is still young. I heard life begins at 80!

Back to the PDF side of life, we are actually investigating the practicality of an extension for Thunderbird to convert emails to PDF. I am told there are some real challenges so whilst it is something we are investigating, we cannot promise the outcome at this juncture.

We will have to wait and see.
Best regards
