Editor as Windows preview handler

Hello.

Is there a way to make sure Editor is used as Windows Explorer's preview handler? Judging by its speed it seems that currently Editor is not used on my system for preview. I can also make previews of PDFs crash, so I would like to make sure it's not Editor at work.

I used a small application to check the currently active preview handler for PDF files. How do I change this to Editor?

Please go to
C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\Shell Extensions
And start the XCShInfoSetup.exe you will find in there - and you can then set the Editor as the preview handler from the tool's menus.

thanks for the hint. Setting all handlers to Editor worked fine.

I also changed the indexing handler from Acrobat to Editor. The XCShInfoSetup may need an update, though, because it listed the preview handler as "none" instead of Edge and the indexing handler as none instead of Acrobat.

I don't know if this is intentional, but I noticed that the Editor preview handler renders pages asynchronous while the Acrobat one renders them synchronous.

That is intended, Asynchronous rendering allows us to more quickly display the first page (or two) in a file inside the preview pane, which speeds up preview handling significantly. (there is not much reason to try and render a 600 page document, when you are not actively scrolling through that document, as more often than not, people are clicking on a few different files, which the preview will load, before they find the correct one.
