Batch convert images to pdf

Post by ClipperJJ »

Clients send me documents as single page jpg or bmp all the time. Like a 10-page jpg they've taken pictures of with their phone. I have to manually print to pdf then usually rotate then compile the pages to one pdf document. Is there a pdf tool that will allow me to at the very least batch convert the images to pdf, if not then compile them into one pdf?

Hi, ClipperJJ

Our PDF-Tools batch processing suite is certainly capable of taking multiple input files, of varying formats, including many image formats, converting them to PDF and merging them together.

The only aspect of this process it would may be fully capable of is rotating the images. If the images have text in them, our OCR functions should be able to identify the correct orientation for each page and rotate them for you automatically, but if there is no text you would need to rotate the images manually.

You can find details about setting up custom tools here, and if you would like to automate the process, you can setup watched folders by following the steps here.

Thanks for the response. I have PDF Tools. I just need to know which one to use. I poked around yesterday, got impatient and quit. I tried the "Create PDF from Images" tool, but either it isn't intuitive, or it isn't the correct tool. I really don't have a lot of time to read through manuals and things -- but I can skim them. I'd just like someone to tell me which tool to use from the suite. I'm former IT. I could probably build my own tool, but I really don't have that luxury these days. Which tool in the suite do you recommend, and could you provide a link to the manual?

Thanks.

Hi, ClipperJJ
based on you description "Create PDF from Images" is the Tool you need. You can run it with its default settings. Just double click on the tool and you will see Choose input file dialog

.

you can add file by clicking Add file menu item or drag and drop you images to the dialog.
also you can edit input images: choose image's thumbnail and click the Edit.. (underlined item on screenshot) menu item

Thank you for your response. The problem that I was having with it was I did not have "choose files" selected in the "choose input files" dialogue. I had chosen "select file list" the first time round. It's a nifty tool. Trying it on a 13 single page jpg doc that was emailed to me that I had converted a month ago and took 10 minutes to convert took about 30 seconds from open to close here.

I also found a manual here, which was useful.

Hello Sebastien,

You should use this tool in our PDF Tools, in order to convert several images without merging them :

I hope this helps.

Hello Sebastien,

Yes, this tool will create one PDF with all chosen images.

If you want to convert images to PDF one by one, you can deselect "Batch processing mode"(look above red rectangle on Dimitar's screenshot)

Also you can click "All options" or gear on the "Create PDF from images" action to open action's options dialog.

Best regards,
Vladimir

Which tab ("Categories") of all settings for the "Create PDF from Images" tool contains an alternative way to get one PDF file for each image in the input list of documents to be processed?
  • New Page Options
  • Image Layout Options
  • Image Labels
  • Image Processing
  • Image Compression
  • Image Post-Processing

Hello Jensen Head,

It is this option that has been referred above:

Which when turned off should allow you to create one PDF per one input image.

Kind regards,
Stefan
