QWERTY international in Typewriter boxes show wrong accents

Post by FLagrange »

Hello,
On my notebook, I have a QWERTY US International keyboard. It allows to type most accented caracters with a combination of keys, like "+e gives ë, "+a gives ä, '+c gives ç. This works perfectly here, like in all applications I know.

However, when I want to add a comment to a pdf using the Typewriter tool, '+c gives a c-sim, č and not a ç.
All other letters seem to work correctly.

Searching this further now, I notice the problem is linked to the Segoe Script font that is used. It does not happen if I change the font of Typewriter to say Arial.

[Edited to remove some parts related to Microsoft Word that were not correct].

Hi,

To me this seems to be a font mapping problem in PDF-XChange Editor.

In Microsoft Word, one can use the ALT + 0231 shortcut key to create the "cédille" character (ç).
In Word 2016 I do not see the problem with the Segoe Script font.

In PDF-XChange Editor, this shortcut also works, but it creates a č, at least when it is the last character in a range with equal characters or when it is an isolated/single character. When it is in a range, the previous č characters automatically change in cédille characters.

Something strange to investigate by Tracker Development.

Kind regards.

Willy.

Willy,
Actually, I tried the same as you, in Office Word 365, 2106 Click to Run (build 14131.20278).
The ç works OK in usual fonts like Arial or calibri by typing '+c.
My notebook has no numeric keybord nor a function key to activate one on the right of the main keyboard part, so I cannot try that.
When I do Insert/Symbol/More Symbols then select a 'normal' font like Arial, Calibri, even Segoe UI, I indeed always get the correct ç.
And I don't know what I did in Word this morning, but I even get a ç when I select the Segoe Script font - in Word.

As you suggest, the problem seems to be more in PDF Xchange then. Can I report that as a bug somewhere, or will Tracker pick this up from here?

@FLagrange
Thanks for the additional info.
Normally, the people of Tracker Software Support will pick this up from here.
Most probably they will create a 'ticket' for the development team.

@Tracker Software Support
Can you please have a look at this?

Thanks in advance and kind regards.

Just checked, and seems it is not the Editor specific issue.

I can reproduce the same behavior with Notepad - the last ç character is a line is rendered with ascent instead of cedilla.

Most likely there is something in the font that confuses some API. We will investigate that.
