Highlight and Comment
Hi,
I am a new user.
I am having a technical issue with the software: I highlighted a sentence in a paragraph, and I want to comment only on that highlighted sentence. But when I click on the highlighted sentence, the entire paragraph is selected in a rectangle. How do I select and comment on only the highlighted phrase or sentence in a paragraph?

Hello ChimaeraJLJ,
Just right click your highlighted selection, and from the context menu that will appear you will have many annotation options available!
Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi, Stefan,
Even if I right click the highlighted selection, it still selects the entire paragraph. This is just an aesthetic issue, not a functional issue. I can comment on the highlighted phrase or sentence. But why would it appear to have selected the entire paragraph? I wish that it could appear to have selected only the highlighted phrase or sentence.

Re: Highlight and Comment
Hi,
Currently, myself, I am not able to reproduce that problem.
So, a few questions:
- do you have this problem with all your documents, or is it document specific ?
- do you try this with the most recent version of PDF-XChange Editor (V9.0.352) ?
- can you please activate the Properties pane (View-ribbon > Panes > Properties Pane), and then click the text that you like to comment. At that moment, you say that the entire paragraph is selected. OK. What do you see in the Properties pane, does it go about "Text Box Properties" or "Typewriter Properties" or rather about "Page Content Properties" ?
Best regards.

Hi, Willy,
Thank you for your questions.
I have the same issue with all PDF documents. Yes, I am using the most recent edition of the software.
I have already activated the Properties pane; but I cannot see any of the three options that you mentioned. Please also see the attachment.
Truly.

Re: Highlight and Comment
Thanks for the screenshot. Now we can see what is happening.
In fact, PDF-XChange Editor selects all the lines where there is a highlighting comment, and shows them in a rectangle.
A right-mouse-click will only apply on the highlighted text but it is indeed confusing.
When you do the same in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, there is only the selection of the highlighted text.
So, I am almost sure that @Tracker Software will make the needed modification.
Best regards.

Re: Highlight and Comment
Disabling the Comment-option "Automatically open pop-ups for newly created Text Markup comments" does not help.
There is clearly a difference in showing the selection of multiple-line comments between PDF-XChange Editor and Ad*be Reader.
Can this be corrected ?

Re: Highlight and Comment
Hello Willy Van Nuffel,
It helps with the highlight not being automatically selected, and thus not showing the rectangular border.
We understand ChimaeraJLJ's main concern that he sees this box all the time.
Yes - if you then click on a highlight and select it - the selector will still show the whole rectangle, and this is how we work for now, and I am not aware of any plans for this behaviour to be changed.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: Highlight and Comment
Thanks Stefan for the additional info.
I admit that it is mainly an aesthetic problem, but even the old PDF-XChange Viewer is showing the selection correctly.
So, would you please be so kind to put it on the list of non-critical issues ?

Hi, Willy, Stefan, Dimitar,
Thank you very much for all of your replies and discussions.
I tried the solution suggested by Dimitar, but to no avail.
Yes, I agree that it is simply an aesthetic, not functional, concern, which I wish could be ameliorated in the future. I will keep using XChange, because, besides the aesthetic issue, everything else is good.
Sincerely.

Hello ChimaeraJLJ,
Thanks for getting back to us and for the understanding that this is just an appearance approach that we have chosen, which is not really interfering with what you can do with the PDF files!
I will see to bring this up for discussion on one of our next meetings, but please note that this is not a promise that we will change this behaviour!
Kind regards,
Stefan
