Ctrl-C doesn't work in build 337

Post by evdbogaard »

I just installed build 337 and found that ctrl-C doesn't work anymore to copy selected text (right-click and then Copy still does).

Did I miss a setting?

For me working fine .....
It's impossible to lead us astray for we don't care even to choose the way.

Hello evdbogaard,

It's working at my end too.

Is it possible to send us an example document with which you have this issue so we can test it?

Regards.

Hi Dimitar,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

The problem occurs with every document, so I don't think sending one will help very much.

This is what I did to test what exactly is happening:

  • I select some text and press ctrl-C
Then I go to Word and press ctrl-V: nothing happens
  • Then I go to the pdf again and right click on the selected text and click Copy
Then I go to Word again and press ctrl-V: the selected and copied text is pasted as it should
  • Then I go again to the pdf and select the same text and press ctrl-C
Then I go to Word and press ctrl-V: nothing happens
So what actually happens is that instead of copying the selected text into the clipboard, ctrl-C clears the clipboard.

As I am using the Dutch language version on the Dutch language version of Windows 10 Pro I changed the language of PDFX to the built-in English, but that doesn't make any difference.

Next I quit PDFX and started it again and opened the same document, selected some text and pressed ctrl-C: now I got an audio warning as if I tried a not avaiblable action and nothing happened (and the clipboard did not get cleared).
Right clicking and copying still worked correctly.

Now I changed to a different page in the same document and press ctrl-C on some selected text. This time I don't get the audio warning but ctrl-C clears the clipboard.

As I didn't have this behaviour in built 336, I guess the problem arises somewhere from built 337.
I hope this description helps to find out where.

Hi, evdbogaard

Thank you for the added details. As we still cannot reproduce this locally, I can only figure that it must either be something document specific causing this or a settings error.

In case it is an error in your documents, can you please send us a copy of at least one document which you can reproduce this in, and screenshots of the text passage you are attempting to copy? If the document in question is sensitive, please email us directly <support@pdf-xchange.com>.

In case it is a settings error, please Export and then reset your settings (via file > manage settings), and see if this works correctly after resetting settings? If it does, please also send us a copy of your settings export so that we can try to reproduce it with that.

Kind regards,

Hi, evdbogaard

I have just heard from our Dev team and after some further testing on their part we have managed to reproduce this. It seems to have to do with certain panes being opened (such as the bookmarks pane), and does cause the Ctrl_C function to not work, we are looking into this issue further and working on a resolution now.
For the time being workarounds involve closing the problematic panes, or using the Right click context menu when copying, as you have already discovered.

Hi all,

I'm seeing the exact same behavior as evdbogaard.

Please try and quickly fix this because Ctrl+C is a shortcut that is used very often.

Thank you very much already,

Best regards
David

Hello David,

Unfortunately, we all managed to reproduce it under several different circumstances.

Our developers are currently working on fixing it.

When a fix is available we will notify you.

One of the workarounds is that you can copy the text when Editing is enabled.

Regards.

Hi to all,

I have the exact same behavior as evdbogaard.
I've unistalled build 337 then install once more after reboot - the issue is systematic.
Text selection with PGDown key is not correct also - select only to the end current page. To continue selection you should use Arrow down key, then PGDown key is working to the end this page and so on...

I should to return to build 336

Hello Actuator,

Welcome to our forum.

Thank you for your report too.

Our developers are working on this.

Do you mind telling me how exactly do you try to select the text ( what key combinations are you using )because the selection with Page Down is working just fine at my end?

Regards.

Hello Dimitar,
I put the cursor at the beginning of the line (as usual with LB mouse click) then starting selection with (Shift - needless to say) + Page Down. The selection is working till to end of 1st page then stop to work. If I use Arrow Down the selection is prolongated to the 2nd page and key Page Down start to work again and so on...

Hi, Actuator

Thank you for the added explanation, I have managed to reproduce this and created a feature request ticket to implement this functionality in the future for you. I cannot offer a timeline on this currently, but you can ask any member of our support team for an update on its progress in the future: RT#5161: Shift+Pg up/down does not continue on to select next page

I wanted to confirm that my experience is the same. Build 337,
the ctrl-c shortcut does not work if any of the left panes are open (I use bookmarks, thumbnails, and comments routinely).
I can also confirm the original poster's findings: no warnings the first time, then after re-open and bell sounds each time ctrl-c is attempted.
Thanks to Tracker for checking into this, confirming, and working on a fix!
