Secure Printing / Print Driver Override with Xerox

Post by ADvG »

Version: PDF-Xchange 8 build 331.0
Xerox GPD PS V5.675.6.0 printing driver

When printing on a Xerox machine with the global printer driver, it is possible to select "secure print" in the driver settings.
In every program this option is honored and the correct pin, which is chosen upon printing, must be entered at the printer to start the print. When printing PDFs from PDF-XChange this option is ignored and the printer instantly starts printing.

Is there an option to NOT overwrite printer driver settings or the possibility to honor this setting?

That's strange a bit. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the printer with PIN protection, but I did install the Xerox driver, and I did the following:
1. put the printer on Pause
2. Print a document from the Editor with "Secure Print..." as a "Job Type"
3. Now I open a list of jobs (right mouse click on the printer icon and select "See what's printing").
4. Select an item in the list, and choose "Properties" from the context menu.
5. And now on "Printing Options" I see that the "Job Type" option still have "Secure Print..." value, which means that the Editor provides proper settings to the printer.

Can you please check if it works in the same manner on your side?

Good Morning Ivan and Dimitar,

I have repeated my tests and so far I tried:
- Installing the printer via print server and locally
- Installing PDF-Xchange Pro via gpo and manually
- Different versions of the driver (from PS V3.8.496.7.0 to PS V5.675.6.0)

The problem persists but only on Windows 7 machines (x86 & x64).
The documents are printed as expected on Win7 either from other programs or printer models and on other OS like 2012R2 and Win10.

Strange thing is when I check the job in the queue the default driver settings are displayed but the job on the printer is correctly categorized as "secure print" and is held.

Got any ideas?

Hi,

sorry, I'm not sure I understood it correctly - so, on Windows 7 machine when you print from the Editor enabling "Secure Printing..." option in the queue the job does not show "Secure Printing..." but printer defaults?

Hello Ivan,

I followed the instructions in your first post.
The properties of the job in the queue ALWAYS shows the default printer driver settings: no secure printing, no further finishing.
Further testing revealed the same problem with the finishing options like stapling and punching.

In spite of the misrepresentation of the settings the job is printed correctly
- on Windows Server 2012R2 or Windows 10 from all programs inc. PDF-Xchange
- on Windows 7 from all programs except PDF-Xchange

The job is printed without finishing and witohut secure print on Windows 7 from PDF-XChange.
Changing the default printer driver settings has no effect.

Not yet -- been busy with the new build we released this week. I'm planning to work with the issue today or tomorrow and will let you know the result.

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the issue on Windows 7 x64 :(
Job has absolutely the same settings I set from the Editor before printing a document.

Can you please if the latest build 332 has the same issue on your side? Nothing was changed in this build in regards to communication with printers, but better to be sure.

Hello Ivan,

today I tested printing with the new version (8.0.333.0) and everything seems fine.
Secure Printing with stapling, punching and duplex printed perfectly.

Thx again for your effort and keep up the good work!

Kind regards
