Change font colour when text box placed

I want to change the text colour of a text box. Now I know how to do this, however the problem I have is that the op.annots.addNew or actually any annot event is not fired when placing the text box. These events only seem to be fired when you either hit ESC or place another annotation element etc.

Therefore I am unsure how to change the colour of the text when initially placed? I was thinking maybe somehow setting the Default Style for the Text Box prior to placing, however I am unsure how to do this via code?
