Wishlist - Braces Comment Tool

Post by joshhuggins »

Would love to see a Comment tool that uses adjustable Braces that we could draw similar to the dimension tool that would have a floating text box attached.

Thanks!

Hello josh,

Thank you for the suggestion. You should be able to accomplish this by creating a custom Stamp tool:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowle ... Stamp-Tool
We also offer some free stamp collections (below), however it does not appear we currently have any Braces in these collections.

Thanks Daniel,

That can get me pretty close, but only allows bitmap stamps that have a locked aspect ratio is that correct? I would need to be able to have the mid-point transform handles so I could stretch to an aspect that is different than the original image due to the multitude of things I would use this for.

Maybe the wish should now be that stamps could be inserted with adjustable ratios maybe by holding Shift or adding additional handles? Your reminder of using stamps in this way will be helpful for other things I need to do as well, I am sure of it! Thanks!
Thanks!

Hello Josh,

You are correct that Stamps are required to have a fixed aspect ratio. Unfortunately that is not something that we are able to change, as we need to maintain conformance with the PDF spec. If in the future the Spec is altered to allow such stamps. than we will almost certainly jump right on it.

Beyond that, Stamps do not necessarily need to be bitmaps, and can be created while containing objects that are vector based or otherwise as well. For example, if you take a look at our default stamps, you will notice that no matter how large you make them, they never look pixelated. This is because they have been created with objects that are vector based, and will redraw themselves at any size.

Items like text, and many of our drawing tools are setup like this, and when they are used in documents that have become stamps, they will scale nicely.
As an example, While the drawing is a bit crude (I'm not artistic) here is a sample left brace stamp that I created by using the Polygon line tool, then flattening it, cropping the document, and creating a stamp from that. (The original file is attached below).

Simply download the attached file, and place it in your %appdata%\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\Stamps folder, then the stamp will appear in your Editor after an application restart.

Kind regards,

Hello Josh,

You can draw anything you like in the vector graphics software like Illustrator for example, then save it as a PDF, open it with Editor and then select the figure that you have drawn and make a stamp out of it.
For example:

Ahhh that opens up a whole new world of possibilities using vector. That should work excellent. Can't believe I missed that. Thank you both! I have a feeling my stamp collection is about to grow exponentially.
Thanks!

You can even copy and paste Auto-Forms etc. from e.g. Word or Powerpoint as vector graphics. Of course, once they're pasted to your PDF they are static and not smartshape-ish anymore, but still this can be pretty convenient.
