Registry Key to disable view in browser (IE)

Post by the_dominator »

Hi,

I am having difficulty getting PDF Xchange Editor to NOT display in browser. it is a personal preference for this user and despite changing the settings at Edit > Preferences, the files still open in browser. I was wondering if you could tell me a way to force this change using the registry.

Thanks for any help,

Joe

Hello the_dominator,

To verify, Have you ensured that the IE browser is closed when setting the option, as per this article: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowle ... b-browsers

You should see a UAC prompt when changing the settings from the Editor preferences (Ctrl+`) under File associations. Can you please verify if you see one and have indeed clicked "allow" or "yes" when prompted?

If that does not help, Please try updating the software to the latest version (328.2) and let us know if the option is still problematic.

Hi,

Thank you for your response. I have done this while IE is closed, and then relaunch PDF and IE and try again. The issue continues after that, where PDFs open in IE instead of in PDF Xchange.

Interestingly i only get the UAC prompt when making this change while logged into windows as Admin. I do not get the prompt when doing this action under the user's windows account. I will try to do this with "run as admin" on monday.

When making the change as Admin, and approving the UAC, i still see the same behavior and the change does not appear to be effective. Then when logging off of admin and letting user login, they see the same behavior also.

Disable the plug-in:
Please go to regedit.exe and delete all of the following entries:
