Overline a letter
Hello,
I hope I'm now in he right section.
I want to overline one or more letters, like barba̅ . Well, I also have problems here!
How can I do it ? I tried it with the ASCII ALT 238 or ALT 0773, but nothing.
Who can help? Thanks.

Hi Jürgen,
Thanks for the post - I'm not able to reproduce this here. Adobe behaves exactly the same as we do. Please make sure that you're using the latest release:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/downloads
If that doesn't help, can you please send an example document for us to test?
Thanks,

Re: Overline a letter
Hi Jürgen,
Thanks for that - Here's what I see: I also see exactly the same bevahiour in Adobe & Word, so this looks to be more of a flaw with the PDF format itself, than the software. I'll see if there's anything that we can do.
If there's something that I'm missing, do please let me know.

Re: Overline a letter
Are you certain that you have the correct Alt code, because everything I've found lists Alt + 328 as 'î':
https://usefulshortcuts.com/downloads/ALT-Codes.pdf
Or as a standlone overline that is a separate character, and does not sit above a letter, but as it's own symbol and occupies an entirely separate space:
https://theasciicode.com.ar/extended-as ... e-238.html

Re: Overline a letter
Hello,
thanks for the hint. In your ASCII table, I only see ALT 0175. And that produces its own space (like my ALT 238).
If I press ALT 328, then I get an "H"! But I send you my ASCII table here. I have marked ALT 238. (I have a german keyboard by the way).
It's such a pity: because underlining and strikethrough (in the properties) is so easy and convenient.
On the .png is exactly what I sent.
And I send to you another .pdf. There I wrote the word "educate" in WORD and I overlined the character "a". Then I copied & pasted. Once I can use that way, but not 50 times in a document!!

Re: Overline a letter
Hi Jürgen,
to my surprise, when asked, the lead developer says we can add such a thing to the text styles options in the Editor so I have raised a formal feature request.
While internal only, if you refer to RT#4657: Feature Request :: editor :: Add "Overline" to text styles. and staff member will be able to get you an update on it's progress.
It looks like you are going to get your wish. I cannot say when this will happen but it is in the pipeline.
I hope that helps.

No problem! I'm also surprised, but it's a great result for all

Re: Overline a letter -RT#4657
Hello Will,
I am surprised and a little annoyed.
The last answer was:
"... the lead developer says we can add such a thing to the text styles options in the Editor. I can not say when this will happen but it is in the pipeline."
After that I Thought everything was clear?!? - I do not understand that!
Can I get an explanation?
.jürgen.

Re: Overline a letter
Jello Jurgen,
My apologies, I am unsure what needs to be further explained here. You are correct in that Paul said this is a feature that the Dev team is looking at implementing, and it most certainly is in the pipeline.
I believe that Will was simply reiterating that our ability to bring this function into the Editor is surprising, none of us knew that this was a possibility until the Dev team informed us of such.
As before we cannot give an exact date for when the feature will be available, but hopefully it is coming soon.
If this is not what you needed explained, please tell me what you would like more clarification on.
Kind regards,

Re: Overline a letter
Hello Jurgen,
I've spoken with a colleague from the dev team yesterday, and while they told me we will keep the ticket, and might implement this in the future - for the moment the ticket will have to wait and be postponed a bit.
He also suggested that the First method described here should work for you:

Regards,
Stefan

Re: Overline a letter
Hello Stefan,
many thanks for your information.
I've tried some of the hints, but the UNICODE or HTML characters do not work the way I want.
Maybe it's my mistake, but I followed the instructions.
So I will wait and will take the more complicated way with WORD.
Nevertheless,thank you for your help.
Regards,
Jürgen

Hello Jürgen
Many thanks for the patience and understanding!
I am sorry to hear that the article didn't really help - and while there's still no exciting news in the ticket - it might be worked on in the future!

Stefan
