PDF7: is there a way to globaly replace fonts by others?

Post by bernard meunier »

Hi,
I have sometime pdf documents which have big size due to embedded fonts.
In order to reduce size, I'm looking for a way to do global replace of some
fonts by others which won't need to be embedded in document like ARIAL or
CALIBRI.
This could be seen an optimized saving.
Any Help / tips will be welcome.
Regards
Bernard

Hello Bernard,

Thanks for the post and enquiry.
I am afraid that there is no way to achieve this quickly and automatically for a large file. You can manually change the fonts used for a specific text, but that will make it necessary for you to make text selections and then Edits.

However when you go to the File -> Save as Optimized menu - you can select to unembed any and all fonts present in a file. Then the new copy of the file will be smaller (the font info will be missing), and the products that will then try to display this file will be looking for substitute fonts to use locally.

Regards,
Stefan

Hello Bernard,

There is a ticket number on this problem already - #4313: FR: Font specific Replace.
You can reference it when asking about the readiness of this feature.

Cheers,
Alex

Hello Bernard,

I am afraid that we cannot provide a guaranteed timeline for this feature at the moment, only say that the request has been accepted, and should be on its way in the future.
