Java script 'mailto' on 'submit a form' not actionned
Editor 6.0.320.0
A form with a field set to :
First - Run a Java script:
var f = this.getField("Today_Date");
if (f.value=="")
f.value = util.printd("yyyy-mm-dd", new Date());
Second - Submit a form:
mailto:emailid@gmail.com
export format .pdf
The first step gets executed, but not the second one (no email confirmation dialog). This form operated correctly last year. I'm not sure if the difference is the Editor's version or some difference in my system.
I'm hoping that Support can help me diagnose this.
P.S. The form has sensitive information, so if need be I could send it direct to support

Thanks for that Claude, I've reproduced this here and have created ticket RT-3842 to track the problem.
Apologies for the inconvenience!

Re: Java script 'mailto' on 'submit a form' not actionned
I mentioned the possibility my environment might have changed to explain the 'submit a form' not being actionned. I just ruled that out by using the form with Acrobat Reader DC: I saw the confirmation dialog then the email fired. So it appears something got lost in the newer version(s) of the Editor.

Re: Java script 'mailto' on 'submit a form' not actionned
I hadn't used this form since last year, so refiring this thread.
Using 324.3 Plus, I have this script: I now get this error: The same form in Acrobat Reader DC shows no error and confirms Outlook is the default email application. But no email is sent.
Also curious to see how ticket RT-3842 concluded.

Hello Claude,
Have you tried using the open web link action instead of the submit form action, it may work better for you.
In regards to ticket RT-3842, It is currently marked as resolved since build 322.

That will open the email dialog with the recipient filled in, but there is no provision for an attachment.TrackerSupp-Daniel wrote:Hello Claude,

Could you check how it was resolved? I read 'resolved' as in 'mailto works', but it doesn't now.TrackerSupp-Daniel wrote:In regards to ticket RT-3842, It is currently marked as resolved since build 322.
Have you tried reproducing on your end like Will did initially?

Hello again claude,
I have just noticed that ive been trying in build 325 on this end, not 324.3 like you mentioned yesterday.
Could you update to this version and let me know if you still have the issue?
Ive validated that it works as submitting a form on my end, but im curious to know if it still does not work on yours.

Updated to 325.0, restart: still same issue, same message.
So I can debug this at my end, could you provide some background on the Tracker error message "Error [MailLib]: Not supported" ? Under what circumstances would it trigger?

The email gets created with the pdf attachment, but a progress window "Preparing to attach files" at 100% remains open. Sending the email closes that progress window, but I'm wondering if this is "as designed" or am I facing another issue?

Hello claude vida,
Thank you for you post. Strangely this used to be by design that the message would remain open until the message is sent. Could you please post the file you are seeing this with so that we can test further?
Thank you!

Hello Claude,
Can you tell us what mail client you are using? I cannot reproduce this with thunderbird, though I suspect it is likely another.

I tried on another PC: same email client, same result.
I found that the email client has focus and the progress window is a sub to that email window. The progress window inherits the coordinates of the last time it popped; the same applies to the email window. It so happens that my email client window does not completely overlap the progress window because of the positions they each had the last time they popped. The progress windows closes when its parent email window closes.
This is just cosmetics. But the developers could simply query the coordinates of the newly opened email window and place the progress window center/center.
I suspect you could see that progress window on your PC if you moved your Thunderbird email client away from its current position.

That was my initial thought as well, however it seems no progress bar appears within thunderbird at all. Are you able to identify if outlook is actually the parent of the window? ill be changing my default client for a test in this regard as soon as I have spare time today.

All I know is that the progress bar will remain at 100% and will only close when the email window closes. The progress window is from PDFXchange.TrackerSupp-Daniel wrote:... Hello Claude,
Oddly this box only seems to appear with Outlook, the other mail clients I've tried (Thunderbird, and Mail for windows) do not seem to have it appear at all.
Ive created a ticket about this matter: #4331
Please reference this number when asking about the bug in the future, and any support personnel will be able to retrieve this information.

Hello Claude,
I am afraid this ticker has been rejected as it is a limitation of Outlook, you will find that other PDF handlers suffer from the same illness when dealing with outlook.
Apologies for the inconvenience, and have a nice day!
