Bug: 325.0 - 'Save as Optimized' Options not saving.

Post by Special »

"Save as Optimized" options are no longer being saved between sessions, I have a pretty custom way to using it, having various things checked and unchecked, but now every time I use this feature everything is now checked, If I uncheck certain things then run it, close and reopen the Editor, they are back to being checked. This never used to happen in previous builds

Hi Special,
can you confirm that you are clicking OK in the save as optimized dialog? If you do not confirm the settings and save a file, then I do not believe the settings are intended to save.

I only ask because the only way I have managed to reproduce this is by clicking cancel in the dialog before completing the operation.

I am clicking OK. It runs, everything seems fine if I reopen the 'Save as Optimized' window during the same session, but if I close the editor, open another pdf, and open the 'Save as Optimized' window again, everything is reset.

Hello Special,
Could you please send a copy of your Settings files to support@pdf-xchange.com
You can export these by going into file > Export Settings.

I would like to investigate if something in there is causing the issue, or possibly provide you re-installation instructions.
Please reference this forum post in the email as well.
thank you!

Was anything ever resolved with this? Here are the Optimization settings with build 324.5 in Windows XP. I don't think those are the default settings. I believe those are the ones I set up and used in previous builds. If I reset all settings, those settings remain the same. Shouldn't they revert to the defaults?

Thanks.

Hello Arnold,

These are the default values.
My settings are the same at 7.0.325.

I'm sorry for asking you this, but did you try to save your settings, after you have made changes, from Save Current Settings menu?

If you have not, please do, and see if this works at your end:

So those are the default settings. Wow, I was positive those were ones I had set. I think I took a screenshot of them a while back and saved it. I will try to find that and set it back to those and see what happens.

Thanks.

Just tried it. From what I can tell, when settings are exported the optimization ones are not included. I think that is similar to what the OP was experiencing. I am pretty sure they were saved in previous builds.

Hello Arnold,

The Save As Optimized settings are exported during Program Settings exportation.

These are the settings from my other computer from which I have made the previous screenshot:
OPTI_SETHINGS.png
..and as you can see they are transferred.

If this does not work with you, the problem is somewhere at your system.

Please try to make a clean install of your PDF Editor.

This is done by completely removing the currently installed version and reinstalling it again.

After the uninstall please remove these folders and restart your computer:

C:\Program Files\PDF-XChange\
C:\Program Files\Tracker Software
C:\ProgramData\Tracker Software

INFO: The ProgramData folder is hidden so you have to enable Show Hidden Folders feature to access it.

I tried uninstalling and installing build 325.0. When I import my settings, the optimization settings are still not being imported. I went back to 324.3 and the optimization settings import correctly. The optimization settings export out of 325.0 okay, but do not import back in. Do you have an XP machine over there you could test it on?

Hi Arnold,
We have a single XP VM that Ivan can use to test with, and hopefully determine why this is not working. I have put this to his attention, however he will be traveling next week, and likely be unable to provide an answer in that time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Cheers!

I don't know what to say, I don't have access to my work computer right now so I can't test with a clean install, but I tried at home with the portable version and get the same thing...

Back when I made the swap from v6 to v7 I took screenshots of all my settings so I could remember them for v7, these are my settings for "Save as Optimized" window, these just won't save, but the profile is saved and imports correctly.

Again I've tested this with v7.0-324.3 and it works 100% of the time, v7.0-325.0 and they never seem to save, the window always open with "default" settings.

Hello Arnold and Special,

Could you please do the following:

Set few values to your optimization settings, and save optimized PDF file.
Send us a screenshot of the values that you have set.
Export the program settings and send us the exported file along with the screenshot to support@pdf-xchange.com
or as attachment to this forum discussion.
We need this for further investigation. Thanks.

Also, please provide us with little bit more information about your computer configuration ( type of OS, XP or 7, 32 or 64 bits, hardware, antivirus, is your PC part of a network )?

The settings from the screenshot was imported but under the name PostJobs.

Could you please tell me is this one of the profiles that you have saved earlier or the default values that you have set for the the test?

See below screenshots using the exact same setting file I sent you imported in 324.3 and 325.0 and using the Save As Optimized feature on the same file. Settings do not import correctly in 325.0 over here.

Thank you very much. I just checked it again to make absolutely sure I was not losing my marbles. I can import the same settings file into 324.3 and even 322.7 (version 6) and the Optimization settings are correct. If I import that same settings file into 325.0 the default settings do not get changed.

And that on both XP and Win 7?

Is your Win7 64 bit or 32 bit? I'm assuming XP x86...

I don't have the problem here on the Windows 7 machine. It is Windows XP sp3 32 bit. Another user Special who started the thread is having the same problem. Not sure what operating system he is using. Don't think it is XP.

Thanks.

Hello Arnold and Special,

From the tests I have conducted, I saw that under Windows 7 x64 and 10 x64 there is no such problem at my end.
On Windows XP the settings are imported but they do not show as "Custom" at the beginning but they are in the list.
You have to select them just once and make them as default. Maybe this can be called a bug.

Today we have released our new 7.0.325.1 version.
Please download it and make clean install with it.
If the problem still persists at your end, please export the settings from your 7.0.325.1 version and send it to us for further investigation.

Regards.

I installed 325.1 on the XP sp3 machine. Exported settings including desired optimization settings to new settings file (attached). 323.4 can import this settings file including optimization settings fine, while 325.1 does not. Please see below. It seems now that the settings are saved between sessions which is the problem the OP had I believe. Thanks.

Nothing seems to be fixed for me with 325.1, I set my options to how I want them, run an optimization, and on a new session settings seems to be set back to default like how Arnold's picture below with the Medium configurations show.

This isn't a big deal because all my Custom Profiles from the drop down box are still there so I can always select them manually each time so get my settings back, but it's strange that from 324 -> 325, you guys must of changed something how settings are stored for this particular window.

We will keep trying and get back to you all as soon as we have any results. Feel free to bump the thread if we have not responded by next week and we will go over the results again.
