Moving Comments with arrow keys
Hello,
Following the latest update to v.6.0, build 322.5, I've noticed a difference moving comments with the arrow keys -the increments has increased significantly. Whereas before I'd use the arrow keys for small adjustments and arrow keys + shift for large ones, I find myself using the mouse more often to fine-tune comments placements, due to the arrow keys alone moving the comments too far.
Is this intentional from Tracker or has an error crept in?
Regards.

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
I just found this from a while back and it seems the topic has been brought up before, though it doesn't seem to have found a solution as of yet -at least not a published one. I hope it is ok for me to hijack part of a thread in support of this one...
Hi,
I have noticed that in earlier versions of Editor (at least in 316.0), nudging was very flexible - the greater was the zoom, the smaller was the nudge distance. Such behaviour allowed very precise alignment of any objects.
Now, in 321.0, and possibly in several previous versions, the nudge distance seems to be fixed at 1 point regardless of the actual zoom. The movement is visibly rough, and any precise alignment requires use of the mouse. Since the (proper in my opinion) functioning was already implemented before, I see the present behaviour as a step backward.
Regards
Appenzeller

Hello Appenzeller,
I will pass this to our devs and see why this behaviour was changed, and what can be done for future releases.
As soon as I have any further news - I will post them here.
Regards,
Stefan

Please check if it has something to do with 'snapping to grid'.
You can turn this option on/off via Edit > Preferences > Measurement.

Thanks Willy (
MJN - Please do check the snapping, as I'm seeing the comments move the same distance as in previous builds.

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
Thanks for your quick replies,
Snapping was off and turning it on didn't change the behavior of how far the arrow keys move the comments (a perimeter line in this instance)...
EDIT: I should add that several of my colleagues who haven't updated does not experience this -using the arrow keys moves the comments seamlessly. They use build 319...

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
Myself, I am not able to reproduce the wrong behavior with the perimeter tool in PDF-XChange Editor V6 build 322.5
Can you please post a sample PDF ?

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
I really appreciate your help on this -attached is a small, cropped sample of my current work ( cropped due to copyrights issues and whatnot!).Myself, I am not able to reproduce the wrong behavior with the perimeter tool in PDF-XChange Editor V6 build 322.5
Can you please post a sample PDF ?
I've tried to show how much a single press on an arrow key moves the comment.

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
Problem confirmed and indeed also reported by Appenzeller a while ago:
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... 4&p=112793
In PDF-XChange V6 build 322.5 the movement via the cursor keys is always 1 point at a time (whatever the zoom level).
With the SHIFT key + cursor, it is 10 points at a time.
In PDF-XChange V6 build 319.0 the movement is incredibly smooth, (probably) 1 pixel at a time (so the movement depends of the zoom level).
Personally, I would plea for a return to that previous behavior (or offering a choice for a movement per pixel or per point - would be perfect).

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
Hello all,
The same behaviour (movement by pixel - hence dependent on zoom level) was present in the Viewer as well - so I will bring this up for discussion on the next meeting and see why it was changed to the current behaviour and what can be done on the matter!
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
Indeed, in the most recent build 322.7 of PDF-XChange Editor V6, the movement is still 1 point at a time.
So, just curious if Tracker Support has some more news about this issue ?
Best regards.

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
Hi All,
I am afraid that this functionality is indeed not changed to be as it was in the Viewer.
I will now check again with our devs what our plans are on this and update the topic accordingly.
Regards,
Stefan

Thanks for the reply, Stefan.
As the resident XChange-geek, I've cautioned my colleagues against updating until this is fixed...

BUMPED!
It has been a year, and this is the one thing that bugs the heck out of me on a daily basis!
Any news on this? Plz...just a hint...
Summary as provided by Willy Van Nuffel:
The movement via the cursor keys is always 1 point at a time (whatever the zoom level).
With the SHIFT key + cursor, it is 10 points at a time.
In PDF-XChange V6 build 319.0 the movement is incredibly smooth, (probably) 1 pixel at a time (so the movement depends of the zoom level).

Re: Moving Comments with arrow keys
Hello MJN,
I am happy to say that it just made it through the pipeline and we have begun working on it.
I do not have a timeline, but know now that it is in progress!
