View pdf files on the Internet

Post by Don Schmidt »

When I attempt to view a pdf file on the Internet the window

"File Download"
Do you want to Save this file?
Save Cancel

comes up. How to fix?

Using current version of PDF-XChange Viewer
Windows XP Pro

No problem opening the file if I save the file and then open it.

Don, did you set PDF-XChange Viewer as your system-wide default reader for pdfs?

On my PC, the PDF Viewer opens in a tab of IE 7.

I couldn't find any options regarding pdf files in IE6.

Did the following:

Removed Adobe Reader 8

Rebooted - wouldn't; tried previous good boot option - wouldn't boot.

Rebooted into Safe mode and did a chkdsk /r

Rebooted ok

Went to a website and attempted to open a pdf file online - wouldn't open but gave an option to Save.

Uninstalled PDF-XChange Viewer

Installed same

All is now OK <============ !!!

It may be time to get new computer; my shopbuilt ASUS TUSL2-C is about ten years old. Hmmm I'm 75! Wife may be thinking about a new husband. 'Don't blame her. :?

Scary little exercise Don - pleased all is well now.

Have to say very impressed with your uptake on technology - wish I could get my Dad as 'savvy' as you and he is a couple of years younger thank you ! :)

Cheers
