Highlight tool text not visible

Hello Tracker,

If you open a pdf file with text highlighted using Highlight Tool in Microsoft reader, the text behind the highlight disappears on the windows 10 "viewer" application which makes the highlighting tool useless. The problem that we have is that if the PDF is opened by our clients with Microsoft reader, text disappears and all they can see is the highlight. Can you please look into this and let us know what would be the resolution to this?

Given that all other readers I've tried (Foxit, Nitro, Adobe, etc.) show the text correctly, this would be Microsoft's issue and you would need to contact them for assistance here.

Hey guys,

I have a better sample now. Try opening this in Microsoft Reader or Microsoft Edge to reproduce. If you open the same file in X Editor you'll be fine, even in Adobe Reader DC it seems to open fine. I have been notified the same problem occurs in iOS (on Apple phones, when viewing the PDF using Apple's reader).

It happens on text you've used the Highlighter tool on, after you have explicitly FLATTENED the highlight.

So I've included two PDFs, one without the flattened highlighter which reads fine in Microsoft Reader, the other with flattened highlighted text which is unreadable in Microsoft Reader.

Since this is a compatibility issue stemming from the PDF control, we're hoping you can look into it on your end.

Sorry, but how we can fix problems in Microsoft Reader ? We flatten annotation according to PDF specification (Adobe do flatten same way and result looks exactly same). So if some reader cannot display such files properly why do you want us to fix this?
At the moment you have two options - contact Microsoft and ask for fix or change way how you generate PDFs supplied to your clients to avoid this problem.

OK, thanks for clarification. I am not an expert in PDF specifications, but to me it's weird that you wouldn't want to contact Microsoft yourself since this is an issue that would potentially affect all end users of your product.

It affects users of ANY PDF creators, including Adobe, so it is weird that this is not already fixed.

It's also worth noting that if we were to contact all companies regarding their bugs, on behalf of our users, we wouldn't have the time to support our own products.
