Hide "short titles" for icons in toolbar

Post by hsrstud »

Thank you for your assistance. Some of the icons in my customized toolbar have their labels/"short titles" displayed beside them. I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent these labels from displaying in the toolbar, as was possible in PDF-XChange Viewer.

I'm also wondering if it is possible to display the toolbars in full screen mode.

Hello hsrstud,

Thank you for the post. It is not possible to show the toolbars in full screen mode.

Could you please post a screenshot of what you mean by this?

Thanks!

I don't think anything has changed since the viewer. As before, if the toolbar is long enough, the short titles will be shown. If it's not, they won't.

The toolbar can be reduced to a single row, but it will still show text titles if there is enough space. My screen shot shows the Editor with the window resized to suit the width of the web page, so there are no short titles for the tools.

The attached shows how labels could be switched off in the toolbar in Viewer. See the selection in the drop down menu called "Show Text." The problem is that I'm working on a wide screen monitor, so labels always show even if I add many icons.

Hi hsrstud,

Thanks for getting back to us - your screen-shot appears to have been stripped. Please be sure to wrap it in a .zip folder, or RAR/7Zip archive, otherwise it will be stripped.

Hello hsrstud,

Thank you for the screenshot! I have spoken to the developer responsible for UI customization. He says that the option you are looking for should be implemented in build 313, or 314.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Thought I would check back to see if you have an estimate of when build 313 or 314 may become available.

Hello hsrstud,

Our devs are now working on the documentation for the Editor SDK, and once that is ready build 313 should be out. There is no official release date yet, but we will announce it as soon as it is known.

Stefan

I checked the latest release and it still does not appear to address this issue. Can you share an update?

Hi hrstud,

It seems that no official ticket was created. I've rectified that and have made a ticket for the problem (RT-3186). I've asked if this could be implemented for build 315 or 316.

Build 315 will primarily focus on the new license system for our SDK's and is to be released in 2 weeks time, so implementation for 315 may not be possible. If not, I'm hoping for 316, but haven't been able to get a moment with the Dev. Team to ask directly, at the moment. I'll see if I can grab some time with them today or later this week and get confirmation.

Sorry for the delay!

Hi hsrstud,

There hasn't been any movement on the ticket yet and suspect that there won't be for a little while. This would be a considered of a lower priority, so we cannot guarantee that this will be implemented for 316, in light of higher priority items that need attending first.

Thanks,

317 and still not implemented.
This imposed feature of displaying icon labels wastes screen space. Users should be allowed to choose wether we want the labels to display or not. I don't care that the screen is wide enough to fit texts, I don't need them and they just waste vertical space. The icons are already too big.
If some others enjoy reading those labels, it's fine and this is why you should put the user in control.
This is the most important reason I still use PDF-Xchange viewer instead of PDF Editor.

...and I thought I was the only one. I'm glad it will be addressed in the next release. Will's post didn't say exactly how but any method of disabling the tool labels should be an improvement. Kudos to Tracker for listening and responding.

I must add that I just now figured out how to manipulate the tool bars, specifically how to reduce a double height one which then lead to figuring out how to rearrange them around in such as to have two single height, full width bars with most tools that I regularly use being readily available without taking up excessive screen space. I hope my objections to the UI will be fully overcome once the labels are gone.
