[Suggestion] Ability to paste a list of links to files from the clipboard

Post by Jensen Head »

Now, when working with console output applications and file manager search results, I have to create a text .pdfftl file for further processing of documents with PDF-Tools, then in "Choose Input Files" select "File List", "Load Files List. Alt + L" ("Loads Files List from * pdftl file"), and specify the path to the created file of the list of links.

It seems to me that it would be more convenient to press Ctrl + V right in the "Choose Input Files" window so that the list of links to local files copied before that was pasted.

Hello, Jensen Head

Ideally, you would configure the file list to be used and then define that the tool should always run on that file list. Then any time you need to update the file list, simply change the contents of that file (without changing the name) and you can run the tool again as normal with the new file list.

The process you are describing here still seems to have a few extra steps beyond the normal setup of this action though. You should only need to:
1. create a file list
2. Save that list to a common location
3. in the "choose input files" action, select "select file list" option, and then specify where that file list is located.

I am unsure why you make mention of the "Alt+L" step, and where that should be used? neither PDF-Tools, or the file explorer have a hotkey with that binding (at least not by default and not for these actions)

I still don't understand why create an additional entity (a file that needs to be further edited before using an application tool configured specifically for its use), when the actions you listed can be omitted, saving time for each processing operation?

And, for sure, this can hardly be called the perfect solution for all cases.

Hello, Jensen Head

PDTFL files are simply text files that have been renamed, you can edit them with any text editing application, and do not need any "special tools" to do so. You also do not need to do these actions every time you run the tool, this is something that can be configured once, and then left as is, only needing to change if you wish to use a new, separate file list. We opted to use a text file based function because that is FAR easier to create and control in an automated fashion, than anything we could offer internally to keep track of a file list.

All you need to do is choose the "select file list" option, and then specify the list to be used before you run the tool:

After that, any time you want to make changes to the file list, you can past the changes into that text file, or you can create a new text file, and change which one you are using.

Hello again!

Our Dev team has reviewed this topic, and noticed that I may have misunderstood the request. As such, they have asked me to create the following ticket for you. I cannot say when this will be implemented, but know that the team is already aware of it and looking into options:

RT#5808: Ability to "paste" file list directly into tools from clipboard
