Auto rotate documents?

Is there any way with PDF Tools to auto rotate documents? If I scan a document backwards, anyway to rotate it 180 degrees before OCR and so on?

Thanks

Erik.

Hi Erik,
you can use rotate pages action for scanned documents.
In attachments you can find the tool that rotates scanned pages then applies OCR.
Best regards

Hi Erik,

Thanks for the post - This is not currently possible, but should be possible with the release of Version 8:

The screen-shot is from an internal preview of the Editor, but the same Enhanced OCR should be available within PDF-Tools too.

Cheers,

Hello all,

I am also wondering about this, as my documents do not seem to be rotated automatically after scanning.

Shouldn't this setting in the scan settings ensure that text recognition automatically rotates documents after scanning:

Even pure text pages that are clearly rotated by 90 or 180 degrees are not rotated automatically, and yet the text is recognized correctly.

Also, is there an option to delete empty pages (e.g. with adjustable threshold for "empty" recognition) after scanning, particularly when using a scanner with hardware duplex that scans both sides of each sheet?

And an additional question please: are all CPU cores automatically used for "Enhanced" OCR, or is there a setting for it? I have not found a setting for OCR under "Performance" in the Preferences.

Thank you
David

Hello David.P,

Further down in the OCR Dialogue you should have this option (it is off for me - so likely that is the default state):

The Detection is used only for the OCR step, if you want the page to then 'physically' be corrected to upright position - you'd need that option turned on as well!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Thank you Stefan,

sorry, probably my post is not exactly in the proper sub-forum, as my above screenshot shows the Scanning dialog option in PDF-XChange Editor, not in PDF-Tools.

It seems that an option for auto-rotation does not exist over there, or does it?

Best regards
David

Hello David.P,

Which build are you currently using?
I do have that option:

The above shot is with the EOCR turned on in Tool.

The "Fix content sckew" is available with the Standard OCR as well:

Yes Stefan, the autorotation option is available in these two places, but it does not seem to be available in the normal scanning dialog of PDF-XChange Editor:

Hello David.P,

You are correct! It does seem like only the detection option is available there, and not an option to also rotate the images. I will pass this on to our devs for investigation!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Many thanks Stefan. Perhaps the lack of this option in that third place (manual scanning in PDF-XChange Editor) was just a small oversight.

Hello David.P,

I've asked my colleagues if that is so. It could be that as those are image post processing operations - they can't really apply the same as when you are running the OCR on it's own, but if it is an oversight - we will definitely set up the ticket and fix that!

Kind regards,
Stefan
