source folder as destination

Post by Mr. Nice Guy »

Hi,

I want to save a pdf in that folder, where I get the data from.
Use source folder as destination doesn't work.
The pdfs will be saved in V:\Documents

Add files: The extension jpg is not allowed --> annoying!

Hi Mr. Nice Guy,

Thanks for the post - I've reproduced this here and have created an internal development ticket to track the tissue (RT-3596).

Apologies for the inconvenience!

Hi Mr. Nice Guy,

Version 5.5. will work with a Version 6 license and is available under Previous Builds link for each product.

Hi Mr. Nice Guy,

Appreciate your feedback. We have redesigned the PDF Tools to make it more customizable, and there are still some things that we are working on. So it will only get better with future builds, while V5 (actually V4 for the PDF Tools) will stay where it is.

Stefan

Hello Stefan,

for me, the program becomes more and more complex and confused.
Editor and Viewer became one in V6 - when I want to look at PDFs I don't need an editor.
Is the old Viewer still developed?

Regards :)

Hello Mr. Nice Guy,

The Viewer is still available for download from our website, but we are no longer selling licenses for it, nor developing new features. All the development effort is now focused on the Editor.
Also - while the Editing capabilities are there - you are not forced to use them, and in fact you can customize the UI, so that only a few tools are visible, and will in this way have a more Viewer like software :)

Stefan

As previously explained - this will be resolved in V6 of PDF-Tools as soon as possible.

In regards your other comments - yes the Tools interface was much basic - but it is possible to customize and automate the look and actions of later products and they offer considerably more.

A 1950 Ford was much simpler to operate and many only had 3 gears - but that respectfully does not necessarily mean they were better.

We do our utmost to avoid 'bloat' in all our products - but we do have to move with the times or like many a Auto manufacturer we would cease to exist ...

Hi all.
Mr. Nice Guy wrote:I want to save a pdf in that folder, where I get the data from.
Use source folder as destination doesn't work.
The pdfs will be saved in V:\Documents
As I can see on your screenshot you are using the "Create PDF from Images Tool" for converting image(s) to PDF. This tool might be used for creating one PDF from multiple images using additional options.
When you specify just only one image on the input - the 'Use source folded as destination' option working well. But when you specify more than one image on input - you are right, this option is ignored currently. In new upcoming build we will fix this issue and application will use the folder of first input image as destination for new PDF document (also note: on the input you may choose pictures from different folders, using our 'Extended dialog for files selecting files' feature).
Mr. Nice Guy wrote:Add files: The extension jpg is not allowed --> annoying!
We cannot reproduce such issue. We tried 'Create PDF from Images' and 'Convert Files to PDF' - everything works well: we was able to see and choose *.jpg files in standard 'Open Files' dialog and in our 'Extended dialog for files selecting files'.
Please details: how to reproduce it?

I want to save the converted jpg into the folder with the source, but I can not do that.
As mentioned above - we found one issue with handling 'Use source folded as destination' option in case when you specified more than one pictures on input - this issue will be fixed soon. Currently, if you want to convert one picture to one pdf - you may also use the 'Convert Files to PDF' tool. This tool handles the 'Use source folded as destination' option correctly.

Senks.

It would be nice if you could take the files from different folders, and then pdf files would be automatically sorted. :D

My guess:
When the "Create PDF from Images" tool/icon is selected in PDF Tools V6, you have a panel with that same name at the right of the window. In that panel, you have a zone "Ask for source files".
In that zone, you have a selection box for "File types", and "..." at the right of it.
When you click "...", you can check/un-check the file types that you want/do not want to see in the list when you click "Choose input files" while you "Run" the tool.
Maybe "JPEG" has not been activated?

2) The question of Konstantin is not clear to me.
Sorting the files can done by clicking on the title/"Name" of the concerning column, no?

Best regards.

@Tracker Support
What about my guess for Mr Nice Guy?

2)
My misunderstanding was about the verb "to sort".
For me it means: to put things in the right alphabetic or numerical order.
For Konstantin it means: the creation of, or the output to, something.

And yes, I have the same remark as Konstantin, that from the moment one selects two or more items, there comes a dialog box asking for the destination of the resulting PDF. But, that fact is already known by Tracker Support.

Best regards.

What about my guess for Mr Nice Guy?
I believe that both yourself and Vasyl may have minsunderstood Mr. Nice Guy here: I believe he's referring to the forums not allowing .jpg files to be uploaded without first being zipped.
And yes, I have the same remark as Konstantin, that from the moment one selects two or more items, there comes a dialog box asking for the destination of the resulting PDF. But, that fact is already known by Tracker Support.
As Patrick mentioned, we'll pass this along.

Hello Konstantin Kovalenko,

Have you tried the new build 318 of the PDF Tools - does this now work better for you and can we consider this solved?

Hello konstantin kovalenko,

There may be something awry with your installation of the updater. Please try simply downloading the installer from the link below to install the latest PDF-Tools: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFTools6.zip

I hope this helps!

Just for information:

I did a test with "Create PDF from Images" with PDF-Tools V6 build 318.0.

The option "Use source folder as destination" is now working correctly when multiple files in different folders are selected.
The source folder of the first file in the list with "Choose Input Files" is used for saving the resulting PDF.

Hi all,

I just get a mail information for the first answer, when I write something ... so, this thread is growing and I didn't notice.
Some of you read it between the lines - the attachment of jpg-screenshots to the forum was meant :)

1. I added a folder with subfolders;
2. Convert JPG to PDF;
3. PDF-Tools distributed files PDF by subfolders!

It is fantastic! Very comfortably!
