Ability to Open Email files
The ability to open and convert other files types into PDF is a great feature.
My question is are you working on other file types besides the ones you currently support.
If you are taking requests, I'd like to request you add ability to import email file types like
.msg
.eml
Will this be possible with some future release?

Re: Ability to Open Email files
Hello Jeff,
Well I guess you can print the email with our printer so that you would have a pdf file as a result. Please try that and tell us your results.
Cheers,
Alex

Re: Ability to Open Email files
Yes, I know I can use the print driver, and I can use that for Office files as well, but it nicer with the import plugin.
I'm looking to do conversions without having to use the print driver. Hence my request to add .msg and .eml files to your import plugin.

Hello Jeff,
Well, we will see what can be done. I will reply here, whether we will do such a feature.
Cheers,
Alex

Hello Jeff,
Just spoke with lead devs. They said that this feature will be rarely used and has some problems that require solving while implementing, so we won't implement it as it's time consuming.
Cheers,
Alex

Jeff(or anyone else),
Don't mean to relive an old thread but also didn't want to create a new topic. What did you end up doing to convert .msg/.eml files to PDF? I notice the importer will sometimes convert them and sometimes not.
Or is there a more elegant solution I am missing?

Re: Ability to Open Email files
Thanks Jeff.
I will add that I find it converts .EML files much more consistantly(does not fail) compared to .msg files.
The problem however seems to be that the .EML files are "html" based and the conversion routine outputs them more like text.
Is there a way to import HTML/HTM files while maintaining their look?

Re: Ability to Open Email files
Not sure since CoolUtils is a third party software. I know there are a lot of options so it may be buried in there somewhere.

Re: Ability to Open Email files
Thanks. Any word from the official Tracker Team about converting e-mail/HTML/.EML files to PDF? I'd rather not integrate another 3rd party solution and keep everything PDF X-Change if possible.

Hello DolphinMann,
From your list, the HTML to PDF feature will be implemented in one of the future releases.
Cheers,

Is there a page that includes a development roadmap or rough estimates on releases? IE somtime this year, next year, etc?

Checking up on the release of the HTM/HTML/Email to PDF conversion development. Was this ever released?

Hello DolphinMann,
Just checked this with our lead devs - this is planned, though not for the nearest time. Meanwhile, I've had a suggestion that you can use - you can convert the HTML file to the XPS or EMF for example and then convert those to PDF.
Cheers,
Alex

Re: Ability to Open Email files
Hi all,
I was just going to add my vote for direct conversion of *.eml/*.msg files to PDF.
It would be an incredible time saver if email files could be simply dragged e.g. into the bookmarks pane and would turn up converted into respective PDF pages, the same as it is possible for example with Word files.
Thanks to the devs for consideration!
Regards
David

Re: Ability to Open Email files
Hello David,
Well this is not such a trivial task - we will need a eml/msg parser and also a HTML parser and converter. The later part is already being developed - so potentially, when we have the available HTML to PDF converter, we can speak about the eml/msg converter.
Cheers,
Alex

Re: Ability to Open Email files
That's understood Alex. I can imagine it being a complex task to write a document conversion parser.
From the necessity to use parsers, I conclude that it is not possible to perform such on-the-fly conversions by a (possibly hidden/background) print-to-PDF process?
Thank you
David
