Bookmark creation while combining files

Sat Mar 28, 2015 5:57 am

Hello,

I am having an event which I don't know how to solve (would it be a bug? a setting I missed? no idea).

What I did was pick a set of 105 *.pdf files, and using: File->New Document->Combine files into a single pdf
I created a single file. That file presents me automatically bookmarks (which is great), with name of each bookmark inherited from file name. As note, I mention that each original file was 1 page file.

My problem is while navigating using those bookmarks. They are pointing me to next page (most likely because bookmark is created in bottom of each page). Since I suspect this is fully related with Bookmarks.pvp plugin, I posted here. Some info about environment follows.

Product: Pdf-XChange Editor (V5.5 Build 312.1)
O.S: Windows 7
CPU: Core i5 - 2.5GHz
RAM: 4GB

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Vasco

Hello Vasco,

Welcome to our forums.
I have asked a colleague from the dev team working on the bookmarks plug-in to take a look and comment on that. If you can provide us with a sample file - several pages will be enough - then we will be able to confirm where the bookmarks are actually pointing. That is most likely the bottom left corner of the correct page, but in continuous mode it will seem as if it is to the next page.

Regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for your reply.

Actually you were right. In single page, the event doesn't happen, and navigation through bookmarks presents me the correct page. For info, and eventual counter check from your side, I attach a 5 page sample of my original file.

Now, If I may, I leave another question:
Is there anything I can do to change the point where the bookmark is actually pointing, I mean, instead of being the bottom left corner, change some setting to be any other point? (to avoid that event in continuous view, which is actually very useful for that particular kind of document).

Thanks again for your patience.

Hello Vesco,

We've managed to investigate the file and it seems that the source document had rotated pages and the created bookmarks ignored this fact. A colleague of mine from the dev team is currently looking at why this is happening and if we can implement a quick fix. If the fix is not that easy - we will create a ticket (I will update this post with the ticket number), and see to get that ticket resolved as soon as possible.

Regards,
Stefan

Hello Vesco,

Just got a confirmation that this has now been fixed and the newly created bookmarks will always point to the top left corner of the page (as it is at the time of creation) irrespective whether the original pages were rotated or not.
The fix will be available in the next build.

Regards,
Stefan

Hello samStan,

We plan to update the Combine Files dialog so yes, this option will be available in the one of the future builds.

Cheers,
Alex

Is there by now a way or configuration setting to disable the auto create bookmarks when combining files?

Thanks.

Hi blackblot,

I'm afraid not - we haven't released a new build since the question was originally asked.

Thanks,
If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.

Hello blackblot,

If all goes well - within the next couple of weeks. It will be a Monday, but if not the 21st - then probably the 28th.

Regards,
Stefan
