OCR

I Have PDF-XChange Editor 5.5, and am trying to install the OCR plug-ins. I have downloaded and unpackaged the ZIP files, but when I try to run them I get the error message "PDF X-Viewer was not installed Installation aborted". Does this mean that the OCR only works in Viewer? Where can I find an OCR plug-in for Editor?

Hello Roland,

Welcome to our forums.
The OCR plug-in is available for the Editor as well. When installing just make sure you select full install, or that at least the OCR feature is selected - then once the installation completes - you should be able to see the plug-in in Edit -> Preferences -> Plug-ins and access the OCR feature from Document -> OCR pages...

Regards,
Stefan

Thanks Stefan. I should have made clear that what I am after is the OCR Language modules, which I can't get to work.

Hi Roland,

So you are trying to install an additional language that is not one of the four originally installed with the Editor?
Which language in particular, and did you download the correct pack from here:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/pdf-xchange-viewer-ocr

Regards,
Stefan

Hebrew, and I have downloaded and unpacked the correct pack. It's when I try to run it that I get the error message that XViewer is not installed.

Hello Roland,

Thank you for the post and for the clarification. I have tested the installer and confirmed that it has installed correctly on my PC. Please make sure you are running the latest version and build (5.5.311). You can check what version and build you are using by going to Help-->About from within the Editor.

You can download the latest version here: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product/downloads

I hope that helps!

Hi roland,

is your Editor installed in the default location or a custom location? Default is C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Editor and the installer puts the OCR files in C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Editor\PluginsData\OCRLanguages

Is that the location of your Editor install folder?

Hi Stefan

Yes, the files are in the default location. But I also have a Pluginsx64 and a Pluginsx86 folder. Could this be a problem of incompatibility of 32-bit and 64-bit software?

The folders Pluginsx64 and a Pluginsx86 folder should be there. That won't be the cause of this.

What is in C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Editor\PluginsData\OCRLanguages then? Does it exist and what files are in there if so?

Thanks for that Roland,

can you try unpacking the contents of the attached zip file into that folder and let me know if that resolves the OCR issue? You should find the languages available to the OCR plugin: Hebrew, Hindi and Thai.

Let me know how that goes?

cheers
