1. Summary

For version 8.0, build 331.0:

    I can't use Russian OCR.

I need downgrade PDF-XChange Editor Portable free version, that would be possible select Russian language.

2. Steps to reproduce

I installed PDF-XChange Editor Portable → I upgraded it to 8.0.331.0 version → I opened any PDF document with Russian text → Convert → OCR Page(s) → I can't find, how I can select Russian.

3. Not helped

3.1. Add/Update languages



I clicked to Add/Update languages → I can't find Russian or Русский:



3.2. Files from previous version

I copied files rus_pxvocr.dat and rus_pxvocr.lng from previous PDF-XChange Editor version to new version folder with another OCR files — D:\PortableApps\PortableApps\PDF-XChangeEditorPortable\App\PDFXEdit\Common\Tesseract for me → I restart PDF-XChange Editor → no effect.

I rename rus_pxvocr.dat to rus.dat and rus_pxvocr.lng to rus.lng → I restart PDF-XChange Editor → no effect.

3.3. OCR language pack downloading

I downloaded Europe East language pack from here → I installed Russian → I copied installed files to Tesseract folder (see previous section) → I restarted PDF-XChange Editor → no effect.

NOTE: in installation process of Europe East and AdditionalLLangsTotal packs user doesn't see destination folder. I use AgentRansack for finding files. It no good, this adds additional difficulties for PDF-XChange Editor users.

• PDF-XChange Editor Portable free version 8.0.331.0

Thanks for the post - Unfortunately the Russian OCR has been disabled for the time being as there are issues with it that make it unusable at this time. We use a 3rd party library for the Enhanced OCR and therefore the OCR languages, and the issue is directly within their library, so we cannot fix it. We're waiting on a fix from them for this issue.

I'm not sure, that it a nice solution.

1. Previous version

Why Tracker Software doesn't preserve previous Russian OCR recognition? Possibly, it was imperfect, but still remained the best free PDF OCR for the Russian or Russian+English languages. See my detailed research.

2. Profit

Have Tracker Software considered the arguments below?

2.1. Users

Russian speakers have lost the best free program for adding OCR to PDF.

2.2. Company

Tracker Software may lose Russian speakers, who could go to another software. Russian — it second (after English) most common Internet language, and Tracker Software losses can be significant.

3. Estimated dates of re-adding

We're waiting on a fix from them for this issue.

Could you say something about when approximately Russian will be added again? Did a third-party company say about estimated dates?

You can use default OCR engine. It has own Russian Language Pack.
Look at Preferences -> OCR

Hello All,

...or you can use Bulgarian ( Български) as an alternative language.

It is Cyrillic based language same as the Russian language.

I am afraid that at the moment we do not have an estimate on when Russian will be available in the Enhanced OCR.

Meanwhile, you please use Bulgarian as an alternative Cyrillic OCR language.
