PDF Tools 4 - Viewer not found when installing OCR add lang

Post by vcandido »

When PDF Tools 4 is installed including the viewer with OCR.
If we install aditional EU languages for OCR, we get an error that PDF viewer is not installed, and aditional languages are not installed. :oops:

Aditional Languages for OCR only works if individual PDF viewer is installed despite of PDF tools have viewer allredy installed.
I need to install by silent mode MSI the new version of PDF-XTools including new OCR PDF-Xviewer and Portuguese language.
I Have this for PDFX-change 4

msiexec /i c:\PDFXCPro_x86.msi /quiet
ADDLOCAL="F_Drivers,F_Office2PDF,F_OfficeAddin,F_Help_Drv,F_Langs_Drv,F_Wizard,
F_Help_Wiz,F_Langs_Wiz,F_IEAddin,F_Viewer,F_Help_Viewer,F_Langs_Viewer,F_BrowserPlugins,F_ShellExt,F_LiveUpdate"
INSTALLLOCATION="C:\Program Files\PDF Printer Barclays"
PNAME="PDF Printer MyCompany" SET_PRINTER_AS_DEFAULT="1"
SET_VIEWER_AS_DEFAULT="1"
VIEWER_IN_BROWSERS="1"
DESKTOP_SHORTCUTS="0"
USERNAME="My company"
ORGANIZATION="My Company"
USERMAIL=""
KEY="XXXXXXXXX"
ALLOWLAUNCH="Ask"
ALLOWEMBEDDLAUNCH="Ask"

Can you help me with this command as we need OCR and new languages :mrgreen:

HI vcandido,

thanks for the report. I moved this into the OCR forum since that is what it's about. Not really important but PDF-Tools doesn't install the Viewer, that MSI you are using is for the PDF-Xchange 4 Pro bundle. Again not super important bet we may as well compare apples to apples.

Regards the installation - at a first glance that install string looks OK. I understand that the EU lang pack would not apply/install after running this. Did the rest of the install work? Can you use the Viewer with OCR after running it? Is the install broken or is it just that you cannot apply the EU Lang pack after this?

I'd like to investigate/reproduce this here so I'm keen to have the details. What system are you installing that on? You have used the 32 bit msi so it must be a 32 bit system.
Best regards

Hi,
Thanks for quick response.
We are installing under windows XP Sp3.
And the problem i was saying is when installing manually.
We install PDF-Xchange 4 Pro bundle complete and then try to run OCRAdditionalLangsEU.exe
and we receive a message saying no viewer is installed.

If after that we install PDFXVwer.exe then run OCRAdditionalLangsEU.exe all is OK.

Regarding the MSI command installs PDF-Xchange 4 Pro bundle but without OCR and without Browsers Plugin because i was not able to find the F_XXX options for that.

I was able to find the OCR command is F_OCR_Viewer.
And the Plugins = F_IEPlugin,F_BrowserPlugins.
So just need to resolve the problem of the additional language.
And if you provide an msi command to install the Portuguese language with OCRAdditionalLangsEU.exe that will be wonderfull.

The Command is like that.

msiexec /i c:\PDFXCPro_x86.msi /quiet
ADDLOCAL="F_Drivers,F_Office2PDF,F_OfficeAddin,F_Help_Drv,F_Langs_Drv,F_Wizard,
F_Help_Wiz,F_Langs_Wiz,F_IEAddin,F_Viewer,F_OCR_Viewer,F_Help_Viewer,F_Langs_Viewer,F_IEPlugin,F_BrowserPlugins,F_ShellExt,F_LiveUpdate"
INSTALLLOCATION="C:\Program Files\PDF Printer Barclays"
PNAME="PDF Printer MyCompany" SET_PRINTER_AS_DEFAULT="1"
SET_VIEWER_AS_DEFAULT="1"
VIEWER_IN_BROWSERS="1"
DESKTOP_SHORTCUTS="0"
USERNAME="My company"
ORGANIZATION="My Company"
USERMAIL=""
KEY="XXXXXXXXX"
ALLOWLAUNCH="Ask"
ALLOWEMBEDDLAUNCH="Ask"

Thanks for support

Hi vcandido,

I was just about to mention F_BrowserPlugins....

The Lang packs can't be called during the install I'm afraid. Please bear with us while we determine what is happening with the msi installers.

thanks.
Best regards

We have found the cause of this and will fix it in the OCR installers. I'll post here when these are available.

We solve it with a Work-Around.
We just copy the language files to the correct folder after MSi installs.

We had to copy 2 files.
For Portuguese that are:
por.lng
por_pxvocr.dat

%to program path%\...\PDF Viewer\ocrdats\

And BINGO, the added language becomes available to OCR.
:D

For guys having problems with MSI our final options are here:
msiexec /i PDFXCPro_x86.msi /quiet ADDLOCAL="F_Drivers,F_Office2PDF,F_OfficeAddin,F_Help_Drv,F_Langs_Drv,F_Wizard,F_Help_Wiz,F_Langs_Wiz,F_IEAddin,F_Viewer,F_Help_Viewer,F_Langs_Viewer,F_OCR_Viewer,F_IEPlugin,F_BrowserPlugins,F_ShellExt,F_LiveUpdate"
INSTALLLOCATION="C:\Program Files\..."
PNAME="PDF Printer"
SET_PRINTER_AS_DEFAULT="0"
SET_VIEWER_AS_DEFAULT="0"
VIEWER_IN_BROWSERS="1"
DESKTOP_SHORTCUTS="0"
USERNAME="..."
ORGANIZATION="..."
USERMAIL=""
KEY="..."
ALLOWLAUNCH="Ask"
ALLOWEMBEDDLAUNCH="Ask"

Thanks for sharing that Vitor,

Yes - this is the manual way to add a separate language, and I hope it will be useful to others as well!

Best,
Stefan
