Custom Callouts

Post by Jony Latengo »

We are using PDF-XChange Editor corporate wide at the OIl and Gas company i work at.
We need to mark up drawings with weld symbols and other process symbols everyday and have to painfully create every symbol every time.
Do you have a way to create custom callouts?
BlueBeam has this option and we are pushing to use this application instead.

Hello Jony Latengo,

I believe that creating some custom stamps is what will help in your case:

We also have some free stamp collections prepared and available for download here:

Can a stamp be created that has a leader line like a callout?

Hello, Jony Latengo

Not one which can be moved, Stamps become static objects upon placement, and the only dynamic elements are items which can be placed within form fields, not objects like lines.
Beyond that, unfortunately according to the PDF specification, callouts can only have 1 leader line, adding more than that breaks the content item in nearly every other PDF software on the market, and can lead to data loss or file corruption. (I should also note that many of the "unique features" Bluebeam offers disregard the specification, if you plan to share the files you create with anyone who does not use Bluebeam, I would exercise caution with any of Bluebeam's special features, as other applications will very likely break the content item when viewing or editing these objects.)

The best I can suggest without breaking the specification, if you need callouts with multiple leaders, is that you add "line" objects manually after placing your callout, and make one end of the line an "arrow".
