From Table of Contents to Bookmarks Pane
Hi,
Got a good file, with a well-made Table of Contents.
Can't seem to find the right way to convert
Table of Contents > Bookmarks
Using
From Page Text
I WAS able to grab them all, and put them in the Bookmarks Pane. BUT...they were only linked to... the table of contents itself? So that, clicking the From Page Text-made bookmark for
Chapter 8
took me not to Chapter 8, page 375 but to page 2, the Table of Contents.
What I'm trying to do it to take the location information contained in the Table of Contents and to Recreate the names of the bookmarked locations AND...the destinations. So that, the bookmark for Chapter 8 takes me TO page 375.
What do you think is happening?
Thanks!
SCH

Hello sch,
In that same bookmarks ribbon menu the third button should be the one you need: Please note that the pop-up text prompts you that you need to have the table of contents selected first for this to work.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: From Table of Contents to Bookmarks Pane
Hi Stefan,
Oh! You mean the one that says "From Table of Contents!" Ha! Didn't spot that.
Tried with my file in question. It collapsed the numerous bookmarks into...two or three bookmarks with ten or more lines of text.
Thought it might be JUST my peculiar book. So, I ran a test on another book. Attached. Same outcome. Six bookmarks get made into one.
What do you think is happening?
Thanks,
SCH

Re: From Table of Contents to Bookmarks Pane
Hello, shade-cabin-hammock
The Bookmark from table of contents function relies on the bookmarks having a common layout, IE:
Bookmark1...........page2
Bookmark2................Page 17
etc Because your ToC does not include page numbers, there is no "end" to the bookmark generation, and it instead continues on, creating a multiline bookmark, until there is an unusually large gap in the text.
If you wish for this function to work in full, you will need to add page numbers to your table of contents.
Kind regards,

Re: From Table of Contents to Bookmarks Pane
Hi,
In terms of common layout, would simply adding an ending number work?
1. The Old Sea-Dog At The Admiral Benbow 6
2. Black Dog Appears And Disappears 21
3. The Black Spot 40
4. The Sea-Chest 59
5. The Last Of The Blind Man 80
6. The Captain's Papers 103
Or, does it need to be more formalized?
Sincerely,
SCH

Re: From Table of Contents to Bookmarks Pane
Hi Stefan,
Just working with this now. Among the many Bookmark tools...can you think of a sort of
export to ________ (? - text; some other non-active format)
plug in all the values
then re-import
Any way you can see to edit them that may be most efficient, other than directly on the page?
Sincerely,
SCH

Hello shade-cabin-hammock,
You have both Export to Text file: And create new bookmarks from text file: So that should speed up the process for you!
Kind regards,
Stefan
