These days, many applications have the option to "Auto-Save" files as you work on them. WORD and EXCEL in MSFT's Office 360, as examples. I should think the benefits are obvious.
How about in PDF-XChange Editor?

we do not offer this because it cannot be done in the background, it would interfere with using the document. Instead we keep rack of the changes we have made. If something happens we can recover those changes.
The Development Team leader has stated emphatically that this is not something we will do.
