Tabs - What Do They Use to Populate Their Names and Can We Define That?

Post by shade-cabin-hammock »

Hi,

I frequently will wind up with multiple iterations of the same base document as I try to add some specific change or alteration among the many features of PDF-x.

What defines the values used in the tabs for the files?

Is it the FILE name? The

Document Properties > Document Title

value?

And, is there any way for us to define which will be used by default?

Finally, is there any character limitation / info on when an ellipsis will appear?

Sincerely,

SCH

Hello shade-cabin-hammock,

Yes - it is indeed the Document Properties (Ctrl + D) -> Document title that you see in there.
You can toggle between the Document title and the filename via the Preferences (Ctrl + K) -> General -> Tabs and Windows -> Setup... -> Document Tab Title dropdown:

I am not certain about the char limit - but if there are several tabs with long titles displayed - they will start getting truncated, so if you need to use some "counters" in the Document Titles - maybe adding them at the start of the title will be better.

Kind regards,
Stefan

To be complete, I presume that if the Document Title field is empty (which often happens), then the tab would revert to showing the filename.

Also, when the "Auto" setting is set for Document Tab Title, then the respective preferences set per document in Document Properties > Initial View > Window Options > Show in Title are adopted.

For the other choices of Document Tab Title the individual documents' preferences (as specified for Show in Title) are ignored.

Does changing show in title to "file name" make the document title become the same as the file name? It would be nice if this actually were to overwrite the document title with the file name you give it

Thank you for the screenshot instruction —DIV

Hi MedBooster

no the document name and title are discrete and not connected this way.

renaming the document will not modify the title which is stored internally in the PDFs "metadata".

I hope that helps.
